Hooghly District is one of the districts in the state of West Bengal, which is also spelled as Hugli or Hoogli. The district got its name as an honor to the Hooghly river and the headquarters of this district is Chinsura. Chandemagore Government College came into existence as early as 1891 and the college is recognized under Section 2(f) and 12 (B) of the University Grants Commission Act.
