Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted for selection of candidates to under graduate and post graduate courses in law. The exam is conducted for admission to under graduate courses like B.A LL.B, BBA LL.B, B.Com LL.B and B.S.W LL.B. Candidates having completed HSC or equivalent course with a minimum of 45% marks can apply. Age of the applicant must be less than 20 years. CLAT for UG courses comprise questions on Mathematics, Legal Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, English Language and current affairs.

Eligibility Criteria for CLAT 2013

Candidates having completed HSC or equivalent from any of the recognized board are eligible. They must have obtained the qualification with a minimum of 45% marks. SC/ST candidates need to hold a minimum of 40% marks only. Age of the aspirant must be less than 20 years (as on 1st July 2013). Those who have appeared or going to appear for 10 +2 examination are also considered eligible. Anyway, such candidates must have obtained the required qualification at the time of admission. Proofs supporting this must be submitted at the time of admission.

Pattern for CLAT 2013

There will be 200 objective model questions for the test, carrying 1 mark each. Duration for the exam is 2 hours. Questions for the test are asked from the following areas.

  • English Language including comprehension
  • General knowledge and current affairs
  • Mathematics
  • Legal Aptitude
  • Logical Reasoning

English Language including comprehension is asked for 40 marks, general knowledge and current affairs for 50 marks, elementary mathematics for 20 marks, legal aptitude for 50 marks and logical reasoning for 40 marks.

The section checks the language proficiency of the candidate via comprehension passages and grammar. In the comprehension section, there will be a series of questions based on the given passage. Grammatical section comprises questions on sentence correction, fill up the blanks, usage of phrases, and so on.

General knowledge and current affairs session include questions on national and international importance. In mathematics session, one can expect questions on elementary mathematics, taught till class X.

Candidate’s problem solving ability and their interests in subjects of law and research aptitude are tested under legal aptitude. There will be questions on facts and conclusion. Here candidates are given with a set of legal propositions and facts and candidates are asked to reach a conclusion based on this data. Fifth and the last section are logical reasoning. The session contains questions on syllogisms, analogies, seating arrangements, logical sequences, etc.
