Procedure to pursue M.Ed from IGNOU

Candidates having completed B.Ed course with a minimum of 55% marks can pursue M.Ed degree through distance, from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Admissions are done on the basis of an entrance test conducted by the University at all India level. Questions on topics like general knowledge (related to educational matters), teaching aptitude, teaching attitude, Educational methodology, and Proficiency in one language (Hindi or English) are asked for the test.

Eligibility Criteria for M.Ed in IGNOU

Aspirants having completed B.Ed course are eligible to apply. B.Ed must be obtained with a minimum of 55% marks. Apart from this, they should have teaching or professional experience for a minimum period of two years. The required experience must be obtained either from a Government/ Government aided school. Those who have obtained the required work experience from NCTE recognized teacher education/research institution in education can also apply.

Reservation is offered for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates. This is provided as per the rules of the Government of India/State Government. Concession for Kashmiri migrants for admission is subjected to a set of conditions as noted below.

Candidates are offered with relaxation in the cut off percentage of marks. This is around 10% of the minimum eligibility requirement.

  • Intake capacity is increased by 5% as per course
  • In technical/professional institutions, at least one seat is reserved in merit quota.
  • Domicile requirements waiving

Admission Procedure for M.Ed in IGNOU

Admissions are done on the basis of an entrance test conducted by the University at all India level. Entrance test is conducted in objective model having duration of 2 hours. Questions for the entrance test is based on the topics studied under B.Ed. Questions are asked from the following topics.

General knowledge related to educational matters — 20 marks

Teaching aptitude and attitude — 20 marks

Educational methodology– 40 marks

  • Educational philosophy and sociology
  • Educational psychology
  • Information and communication technology

Proficiency in one language (Hindi or English) — 20 marks

Application form for the entrance test must be submitted along with attested copies of required documents. The required documents to be submitted are mentioned in the entrance-cum-admission form. Admissions are done regional center wise. Change of program center outside the region is not allowed.  Mere qualifying the entrance test does not mean that the candidate got selected to the course. Candidates qualified in entrance test should submit their original documents (mark sheets, caste certificate, etc) after receiving the offer letter for admission from the regional centre. They must pay the programme fee at the time of admission itself.
