Future prospects of genetics
Thanks to Sir Gregor Mendel and modern science, we now know what Genetics is and how much it is useful to us in our lives. One can study the variations in genes through this science and hence find out treatments and other possible methods to help mankind survive. This science has attracted many students and it has become a field where job opportunities are very much available. More details about this medical field are mentioned below.
Where is it applicable?
Genetics is mainly used to find out the cause of diseases that are inherited genetically. Many methods are used to determine how and why these diseases are caused. With the help of these methods one can classify a few areas where genetics can be applied. They are:
Genetic testing: This method is used to diagnose diseases such as Turners Syndrome, Hemochromatosis etc.
Genetic Screening: This method is used to indicate a particular part of the population that might be in risk due to a specific genetic disorder. Through genetic screening, the patterns of genetic inheritance can also be determined.
Treatment: Through treatment of genetically inherited problems, the genetic as well as molecular basis of disorders can help guide therapy.
Indian institutes that offer courses in Genetics
A large number of Indian institutions offer interested students with courses in genetics at both the graduate and postgraduate levels. A few of those premiere colleges & universities in our country are:
- All India Institute of Medical Sciences

Scope of Genetics in India
Students of genetic engineering can get jobs with institutions of research as well as educational institutes. Those who have specialized in this subject can get jobs as Lecturers. Experienced individuals of this field with a PhD degree are eligible to get jobs as assistant professors or professors as per their experience. They also need to possess the M.Ed or SET degree. Those who are interested in further research will get appointed with governmental and private sector organizations that are involved in studies about genetics.
Scopes of Genetics outside India
Scope for jobs is available for students not only within the country but also abroad. Students of genetics can take up research assignments in research institutions abroad. They can also get employed with universities or colleges that teach genetic engineering.
