The result of the recently held ACER PISA test was very much disappointing for Indian students. The test was held weeks before which focused on the global assessment of students skills. The students who participated in the test where from South and South East Asia, and surprisingly, Indian students were very poor in their performance.

The performance of Indian students was very weak and they ended up in the second last position in the list. It was China which came top in the list. This is considered to be a big thing to worry for the Indian students and for the authorities who take care of Indian education system. It can be undoubtedly stated that Indian education system need to be improved.

Revamping the education system has always been a matter of discussion in India. But, it seems the discussions are not making any results. But Chinese education system has taken many leaps in the education system. From past four decades, China has given more emphasis to update the education system and make sure that the students get exposed to knowledge from every aspect.

Chinese education system has incorporated much advancement from 1974 which has helped the nation to put up a well versed education system. Out of the major steps taken by China, one of the most outstanding is in the policy adopted by the nation which says compulsory education for nine years. The specialty of this policy is that, special attention is given to vocational training for the students in this nine year to make them more skilled and technically well versed. The Chinese government has also given more emphasis to start key schools, especially for academically inclined students.

China and its education system strategies

China has always given more emphasis on vocational education. According to the statistics, in the year 2007, China has allocated 14 billion yuan for the upliftment of the education system. The whole amount was spent on vocational schools. In China, the government has rolled out many projects, especially state project 211 and 895 which give more importance to enhance the quality of education in various institutions. The government also promotes foreign universities in the nation so that the students will get a platform to enrich their knowledge and learn different cultures.

Comparing Chinese and Indian education strategies

If a comparison is made between Indian and Chinese education policies and government initiatives, it could be clearly understood that why Indian students lagbehind in skills and knowledge. Chinese students getmore technical and practical know how about the subjects because of the education system prevailing in the nation where as in India, an average high school student struggle to solve a mathematic problem.

In comparison to China, Indian education institutes are far behind in infrastructure and well educated teachers. Well, there are institutions in India which gives more importance on quality and infrastructure, but in such institutions, it is very difficult for a regular student to get admission.

Indian government has not given more importance on inviting foreign universities into the nation. But China is far ahead and has welcomed many reputed foreign universities and has enriched the quality of education in the nation. At present, there are many institutions and universities in China which are listed among the most reputed institution internationally. But, Indian universities are still far behind. According to statistics, the education provided in India is very less. There are many graduates in India, but the quality of training they get to enrich their skills and capabilities are very poor.

China has around 500,000 VETs which produced well educated and trained students.

Why India is not able to make education inclusive for all?

Well, the most appropriate answer for this might be that the authorities must give more importance to improved strategies and more emphasis on the quality of the education system rather than controlling itself for political gains. Today education sector is considered as a sector where more importance is given to political and business benefits apart from quality education.

Government must encourage more quality institutions and must also give more emphasis on flexible fees structure. In the current scenario there are many education institutions available in the nation but how many are providing quality education. It cannot be said that the nation don’t have enough institutions for the students to learn, but when it comes to quality education, the numbers of quality institutions are very less compared to the number of students who apply for seats in colleges. Then why don’t the government authorities take necessary steps to maintain quality education system in all the institutions are still a big question.

However, it is high time for the government to think out of the box solutions to make sure that our students also get quality training. It might not be possible for the government to reconstruct the complete education system in one forth night. But, better strategies and policies will surely make some changes. It is not that, the nation doesn’t have enough fund and man power to bring about a change in the current education system.

India needs to give keen interest in many factors which has a direct as well as indirect influence on the education system. Keeping aside political interest, if the government gives more emphasis on producing quality students, then the nation can make wonders. As far as China is concerned, they are trying their best to make the best out of the huge population over there. Here, in India the majority of population at present is young. If we can plan well and mange to lead the youth to the right direction, hopefully the nation can become more advanced within short time. Just having more number of institutions will never helps any one to meet this requirement but giving quality education and providing better training will only help Indian students to reach international standards.
