BINC Examination - Essential Details

Bio Informatics national Certification Examination is organized by the Department of Bio technology, Government of India. Any science graduate, post graduate or PhD holders with or without formal training in bioinformatics can apply for this exam. There are three papers for the exam. Paper 1 includes objective model questions for 100 marks and Paper 2 consist of 15 short answer type questions. Paper III is a practical test. It is compulsory for candidates to score at least 40% marks or higher to attend further papers.

Eligibility Criteria for BINC Examination

Candidates who hold a graduate, post graduate or PhD qualification in any of the subject streams such as Science, Technology, Pharmacy, Medicine (both Homeopathy and Ayurveda), Pharmacy, Veterinary Science, Engineering and Agriculture become eligible to apply for this exam. Candidates with or without training in Bio informatics can also apply for the same. It is also possible for final year graduates to apply for this exam provided they are able to complete the concerned course at the time of admission. No age limit is specified to attend this exam.

BINC Examination – Exam Pattern

The written examination mainly includes three papers which is explained below –

Paper 1 – Objective model questions

  • Total marks – 100 marks
  • Total number of questions – 100 questions
  • Time limit – 2 hours

Syllabus of Paper 1 is as follows –

  • Physical Sciences
  • Information Technology
  • Chemical Sciences
  • Biology
  • Bio Informatics
  • Basic Statistics
  • Basic Physics
  • Basic Mathematics
  • Basic Chemistry

Paper 2 – Short answer type questions

  • Total marks – 150 marks
  • Total number of questions – 15 questions
  • Time limit – 3 hours

Following is the Syllabus of Paper 2 –

  • Advanced Biology
  • Advanced Bio Informatics
  • Advanced Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry, Statistics
  • Advanced Information Technology

Paper 3 – Practicals

  • Total marks – 100 marks
  • Total number of questions – 2 questions
  • Time limit – 2 hours

For this paper, questions will be based on the specific syllabus of Paper 1 and 2 specifically for Bioinformatics and Information Technology subjects.

Only those candidates who are able to obtain at least 40% marks or above in Paper 1 will become eligible to attend Paper 2 and Paper 3. To get finally selected, it is compulsory for students to obtain a minimum of 40% marks or above in all the three papers.

BINC Examination – Application Procedure

It is essential for candidates to follow an online application procedure to apply for this exam. Candidates can log in to the official website to apply. Before that, candidates should pay application fees of Rs 600/- as Demand Draft (DD), taken from any of the nationalized banks. The DD should be paid on behalf of “The Registrar, University of Pune” and should be paid at Pune. It is essential to enter all specific details including DD amount details correctly in the application form and submit them online. Candidates need to further take a print out of online application form, attach DD form and other relevant specified educational documents and send it via post to the specified address within the last date mentioned.
