Coal Mining Technology as an efficient tool for power generation
The coal mining technology deals with the story of coal, its importance and utilization. The course exposes the methods of coal extraction from deep below the earth’s surface. It plays a vital role in finding the areas that are rich in coal reserves. It also helps to determine the different qualities and varieties of coal on the basis of efficiency, carbon content, caloric values, and different stuffs. Besides all these, the course also deals with how to reduce the quantity of smoke emitted by coal. In the present era, each nation is actively involved in the race of development. In such a scenario, the most important pre requisite is the power requirement. Then is the coal mining technology, which is considered as an efficient tool for the generation of power.
Course Details
The candidates can pursue various courses in mining technology like diploma in mining technology, B.Sc in mining engineering, B.Tech/B.E in mining engineering, M.Tech in Mineral Engineering, M.Sc in Mineral Process Engineering, M.Tech in Mineral Exploration, M.Tech in Engineering Geology, M.Sc in Mineral Processing and Mineral Exploration, M.Tech in Petroleum Exploration, M.Tech in Mining Geophysics, etc.

Eligibility Criteria
The minimum qualification required for pursuing diploma, graduation, and B.Tech courses in mining technology is 12th pass with Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics from a recognized board. For getting admission into B.Tech course, the candidates are required to clear the entrance exam conducted by the university. To pursue M.Tech course in mining technology, the aspirants should have completed B.E/B.Tech in relevant stream from a recognized university. These candidates are also required to clear the entrance exam like GATE. The candidates who are interested in studying M.Sc course must have completed graduation in relevant stream from a recognized university. Some colleges conduct entrance exam to select eligible candidates to the course.
Career Opportunities
Mining technology or engineering is one of the most demanded course and a course which gives immense opportunities to the students. Graduates have a wide range of career options in the mining industry, like operations, engineering, management, and sales. They have also options in public sector like Minerals Development Corporation and mining department of Union and state Government, Mines, Uranium Corporation of India, Neyveli Lignite Corporation, Hindustan Zinc Limited, MMTC Limited, etc. The mining technologist can find jobs as Mine Planner/Ventilation engineer, Petroleum Engineer, Production Manager, Operations Engineer, Mining Investment Analyst, Coal Preparation Plant Manager, Extraction Maintenance Superintendent, Process Plant Maintenance Foreman, Lecturer, etc.
Advantages of Mining technology or Mining engineering
Advent of new technologes has changed everyone’s life in the world. It has also changed the way in which the coal mining companies discover and market coal. The technologies have changed the coal mining industry to a high-technological concern equipped with computers and all the necessary machineries. One of the newly introduced techniques in mining industry is surface mining. This strategy is useful when the coal deposits lie near the surface. Another one is room-and-pillar technique, which is useful when the coal deposits are under the surface. A new underground mining method called “long wall mining” applies laser technology.
Nowadays, mining engineering is very essential for our world, which is racing on the path of technology. We require Minerals in various processes of life. Mica is among one of those Minerals, which are used for electric wires and hence power generation is made possible. Mining extends its range by including the extraction of any non-renewable resources such as natural gas, petroleum, and even water. Mining engineering also provides rock salt, oil shale, and potash. Besides mineral extraction, the skills of mining engineers are also required in different fields where the earth’s crust is exploited. Some of the applications are development of railroads, roads, underground champers, tunnels, etc. The significance of environmental and ecological planning is identified and given important attention in all features of the mining technology.
