Indian Institute of Technology (IIT –Roorkee) offers two categories of summer internship programs to candidates for a total duration of 6-8 weeks. “Category –A” internship program can be applied by B.Tech (CSE and ECE) stream graduates. On the other hand, “Category – B” internship program can be availed by B.Tech (CSE) stream graduates. It is compulsory for students to study B.Tech course in any of the government or government funded institutes to apply for both the categories of internship programs.

Categories of Summer Internship in IIT, Roorkee

Summer Internships in IIT, Roorkee is offered under two main categories which is as follows –

Category A

Only B.Tech graduates who have opted the specialization streams like Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science engineering are eligible for ‘category A’ internship. Under this category of internship program, students are not offered any stipend. The total number of seats for this program is limited to 3 (mainly for students in institutes other than IITs). On the other hand, there is no seat limitation for students studying in IITs.

Category B

Microsoft Research Labs, India (Rx Lab Program) offers this internship program specifically to those students who are currently studying in either government or government funded institutes except IITs. It is essential for candidates to opt for B.Tech course in Computer Science and Engineering stream to become eligible to apply for this program. A total of 3 seats are available for this internship program. A stipend amount of Rs 10, 000/- is offered to students who are able to successfully complete the internship program.

Eligibility, Selection procedure, and other General conditions for applying for Summer Internship in IIT, Roorkee

• The total duration of the internship program will be for a total of 6-8 weeks.

• Summer Internship program can be applied by only those students who are studying in either government or government funded institutes.

• It is compulsory for students to complete either 4 semesters or 6 semesters in B.Tech courses at the date of start of internship program. A higher preference will be given to those students who have completed 6 semesters of B.Tech course.

• Students need to obtain a CGPA of at least 7.5 (out of a 10 point scale) to become eligible to submit the application for internship program.

• The selection procedure will mainly depend on the CGPA scored and the project proposal submitted by students. On that basis, a final merit will be prepared including the names of selected candidates. It is also necessary for candidates to get a specific faculty member to supervise the proposed project and on that basis; the internship offer will be given to students.

• It is compulsory for selected candidates to pay a deposit fee of Rs 5,000 per month in the institute.

The applications for Summer Internship Program in IIT, Roorkee need to be followed by the responsible institute authorities with all important details of candidates including project proposal (regarding the particular internship category applied for), candidates resume, pass port size photograph, marks sheets (attested)  within the last date of submission.
