Union Public Service Commission came into existence on October 1, 1926 under The Government of India. The commission holds the responsibility of being a constitutional body in the country which is responsible or infact authorized to conduct competitive written as well as interview examinations for the appointment to the various Civil Services of India. The Chairman and other members of the Union Public Service Commission are selected by the President of India only. Union Public Service Commission is actually headed by one chairman and ten other members.

Job Profile:

Union Public Service Commission invites applications from eligible Indian Nationals for filling up the vacant positions of Engineer & Ship Surveyor cum Deputy Director General (Technical) in the Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping. Candidates must ensure their eligibility in advance before applying online for the specified position. Selected candidates will be appointed on probation as per rules.

Eligibility:

Candidates must be either a citizen of India or subject of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan or equivalent. Interested candidates should have age not exceeeding the maximum age limit for being eligible for applying for the specified position in Union Public Service Commission. The maximum age limit set for the post is 50 years as on 12 June 2012. Candidates belonging to reserved categories may get relaxation in the upper age limit as per the rules of Government of India.

Educational Qualification:

Canidates must possess the certificate of COmpetency of Marine Engineer Officer Class-I (Steam or Motor or Combined Steam and Motor) or equivalent. Besides this candidates should also have five years of xervices at sea of which one year service as Chief Engineer of Second Engineer. Minimum one year experience in survey and inspection of merchant ship is required for the post.

Vacancies for General candidates: Only 13 posts are available.
Vacancies for SC candidates: Only 3 posts are available.
Vacancies for ST candidates: Only 2 posts are available.
Vacancies for OBC candidates: Only 6 posts are available.

Pay Scale: Selected candidates will be paid under the Pay Bnad III i.e. Rs. 15600-39100 with a Grade Pay of Rs. 7600.

Application Fee:

An application fee of Rs. 25 is need to be remitted by candidates (General and OBC candidates only) in any branch of the SBI. The application fee should be submitted in cash or by using net banking facility of the State Bank of India or by using Visa or Master Credit or Debit Card. No fee is to be paid by the candidates belonging to SC/ST/PH categories. Women candidates are also exempted from the payment of this application fee.
