Entrance Exam for MA in Economics in Delhi School of Economics
Delhi School of Economics, commonly known as DSE or D School is a reputed institute affiliated to the University of Delhi, offering various post graduate programmes. The institute conducts its own entrance examination for the admission to post graduate programme in Economics. Candidates should be thorough with the exam pattern and syllabus to prepare well for this exam. There will be two papers. Candidates are required to attend one of the papers only as per their choice.
Exam pattern
There will be two papers, (1) option A and (2) option B of which candidates has to opt according to their choice. Option A is for candidates who have graduation in Economics/ Commerce or related subjects. Candidates who have graduated in Mathematics/ Engineering/ and related subjects can select option B. Candidates can select either of these options irrespective of their academic background only if they are confident to attend the exam. The test will be of 3 hours duration.
Option A (Economics): This section carries questions from topics like Micro economics, Macro economics, Statistics and Econometrics. There will not be subject wise allocation of marks in the test, but all the four subjects carry equal weight age in the paper. This paper contains two sections of questions in multiple choice objective type format. First section contains 20 questions each having one mark. Second section contains 40 questions of 2 marks each. Each wrong answer carries 1/3 negative mark for the 1 mark questions and 2/3 for 2 mark questions.
Option B (Mathematics): This section carries theoretical questions from areas such as Functions, Matrices and Real analysis. This paper comprises of two sections. One section contains multiple choice objective type questions and the second section is of descriptive type questions. There will be choices for descriptive type questions. Each objective type question carries one mark, and there will be negative marking for wrong answers.
Eligibility
Graduates with 50% of aggregate marks in Economics or graduates or post graduates with 60% of aggregate marks in any subjects can apply for the entrance test. Candidates belonging to reservation category require minimum pass mark in graduation or post graduation to apply for the entrance exam.
Application process
Application form can be downloaded from the official website of the University. Candidates should submit the fully filled registration form and exam fee, along with self attested copies of supporting documents to “Head, Department of Economics, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi.” Late applications will be rejected without any reason.
