To become a DC, you need to be an IAS officer first.
IPS is the name of the service, IPS officer is the post.

Both Services are civil services, so for entry in these services, a candidate must appear for and qualify in the UPSC Civil Services examination held each year.

There is no need to get tensed about your educational qualifications.
The basic criteria that is required as educational qualifications are

Minimum Educational Qualifications :The candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a university Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.
Final year students are provisionally allowed to enter the exams as they await results.

coming to age you should have minimum 21 years and not exceed 30 years in case of general applicant.

if you are OBC applicant then you can attempt till 33 years
if you are SC/ST applicant then you can attempt till 35 years.

Number of attempts is limited to 4 for general candidates, 7 for OBC candidates, and unlimited for SC/ST candidates.

This exam is conducted every year.
Usually the notification for this exam is released in the month of December or January.

One will get the information about notification and other details in main national dailies and also in some special dailies like Employment news papers .
also the information about every exam which is conducted by UPSC will be present and updated in the official website.


coming to optional subject selection you can select the optional subjects of your choice according to your tastes and preferences and also based on your educational background .
Note you have to select the two optional subjects from the list of optionals which are provided you to in the Notification.

There will be common syllabus for level 1 exam i.e., CSAT
only optional subjects are for Mains exam.

dates are not yet announced so you can wait for that and for the announcements you must keep a check over the official site :http://www.upsc.gov.inthere will be three stage exam. first stage is preliminary test, after that there will be mains exam, then finally you have to appear for interview ....

How To Become An IPS Officer

In order o become an IPS (Indian Police Service) Officer..you need to clear the Civil Service Exams conducted by UPSC every year..

Eligibility Criteria :-

According to the UPSC guidelines..a candidate must satisfy the following conditions to appear for the Civil Service Exam :-

1) You need to be a graduate or a final year graduation student in any stream from an AICTE or UGC recognized University..

2) You should be in the age limit of 21-30 years for general category,21-33 years for OBC and 21-35 years for SC/ST

The maximum number of attempts allowed for the general category is 4,for OBC it is 7 and for SC/ST there is no limit..

Exam Pattern :-

There are 2 rounds for clearing this exam

1) Prelims :- This round..also known as Civil Service Aptitude Test(CSAT) has 2 objective papers which will test your general knowledge,current affairs and aptitude..

2) Mains :- If you clear the Prelims,then you shall qualify for the Mains where you will face nine papers..where your knowledge of your graduation subjects shall be tested..

If you clear both the rounds..you shall be called for the interview and the final selection..

Important Dates of Civil Service Exams :-

The forms shall be available to you in the month of February..

The Prelims are held in last week of May and the results for the Prelims shall be declared in the first half of August..

The Mains shall be conducted in the last week of October and the results shall be announced in the mid of March..

For IPS exam you will register for the civil service exam of UPSC which conducts only one time in a year.

You can register online or buy the form from GPO.

You can fill the form if you have a valuable graduate certificate and age is between 21 to 30.

You must fullfill the physical standrads of the IPS selection.

Fee of form is 100/-only.
