No, after giving 2nd year of B.Com, you will not be eligible to apply for CDS.

CDS - Combined Defence Service, the entrance exam for which is conducted by UPSC twice every year as CDS-I and CDS-II for an entry in to Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officer's Training Academy of CDS after Graduation Degree.

As a candidate from Commerce stream, you can apply for CDS in the final year of B.Com. and you are only eligible to spply for Indian Military Academy and Officer's Training Academy of CDS.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian unmarried National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream from a recognised University within the age of 19 to 24 years for IMA and from 19 to 25 years for OTA with good Physical and Mental health, can apply for CDS.

Bachelor/B.Com is a 3 years course.You have now given only final exam of 2nd year,so you will not be eligible to apply for CDS(Combined defence Services) Exam conducted by UPSC.

The most important eligibility conditions for applying in CDS Exam is that you should be a Citizen of India.

Essential educational qualification are :

1. Candidates who have a bachelor degree in any discipline with Mathematics/Physics as Honors paper in Graduation will be eligible to apply for CDS Exam.
2. Candidates who have an Engineering degree in Mechanical/electrical/electronics/Civil/Computer Science will be eligible to apply for CDS Exam.The only condition is that they have join engineering course after completing their Inter/Higher secondary education.

Selection process :-

• Written test.
• Physical Fitness Test and Physical Efficiency Test.

Physical Fitness Requirement :


~Candidates minimum height should be 157.5 cms.
~Candidates weight should not be above 55 Kgs.
~Candidates should have normal eye vision of at least 6/6.
~Candidates should not be suffering from the problem of Color or Night Blindness.


Physical efficiency Test will include following activities :

1. Running.
2. Push Up and Pull Up.
3. Chin Up.
4. Rope Climbing.
5. Hill Climbing.
6. Sit's Up.

Written examination Pattern :

• Total number of sections will be 3 and total number of questions will be 340.
• Total marks will be 300 and total duration of written exam will be 3 hours.

Written Examination Syllabus will be as follows :-


~English Grammar and Comprehension - Total number of questions will be 120.
~General Knowledge - Total number of questions will be 120.
~Elementary Mathematics - Total number of questions will be 100.

Eligibility Criteria for CDS:

>> Graduation from any subjects

>> No marks requirement

>> Age should be between 15 years to 24 years

If you fulfill these criteria then you can write CDS.

this exam occurs twice per year in the month of february and september

to become eligible for the exam,you must fulfill its criteria which are as follows:=
-AGE LIMIT=

1)IMA=born not earlier than 2nd july 1989 and not later than 1st july 1994.

2)indian naval academy=born not earlier than 2nd july 1991((NCC HOLDER 1989) and not later than 1st july 1994


3)air force academy=born not earlier than 2nd july 1990 and not later than 1st july 1994.

CDS Exam Details:-

CDS stands for Combined Defense Services. This exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. For twice every year this exam is conducted and you will get to enter the following wings by giving this exam:- Indian Armed Forces, Army, Navy and Air Force.

Depending upon the choices that you make and the performance you deliver in the written test and the personality test that soon follows after that you will get to receive training from any one of the following academies:-

• Naval Academy, Goa
• Air Force Academy, Begumpet, Hyderabad
• Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai

Gender and Marital Status:-

Only unmarried male candidates can apply for the IMA, Naval and Air Force Academy. For the OTA it does not matters if the male candidate is married or unmarried.

Female candidates can only apply for the OTA. Only unmarried female candidates can apply for this and the ones who are widowed of defense personnel who died in harness may or may not have children.

Educational Qualifications:-

I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy (OTA):- A degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

Naval Academy: A degree in engineering or B.Sc degree with physics or mathematics.

Air Force Academy: B.Sc degree with physics and maths or a B.Tech degree in any stream.

Age Limits:-

1. I.M.A.- 19-24 years
2. Naval Academy- 19-22 years
3. Air Force Academy- 19-23 years
4. Officers’ Training Academy- 19-25 years

Please Note:- No you are not eligible at the moment to sit for the CDS examination since you will just go to the third year now. CDS exam is open for the graduate degree holder or the ones who have already appeared for the final qualifying exam and is waiting for the results to come out.

Thus you can give the exam in the final year but in that case you will be required to submit proof of passing the degree examination after the SSB interview for verification.

My friend you can give the CDS test if you are a student of final year i.e. students who are appearing in final year can eligible for it.Remeber if you clear the test yougraduation will be complete at the time of joining and as you mentioned that you are a commerce student so u will have to go in the IMA field i.e. Indian military academy.One thing that you have to remember that your age is between 19-22year at the time of appearing of CDS test.
