after completing polytechnic, you will be eligible to take admission in engineering. you will get admission in b.tech directly into the second year. this is called lateral entry. for that you will have to give an entrance exam of lateral entry. every state conducts its own entrance exam for lateral entry, so you must see that in which state you want to take admission. there is no lateral entry in nit and iit colleges. if you want to take admission in these colleges, then you will have to take admission in first year only by giving the aieee r iit jee exam. |

Re: Can I join IIT after completing my Diploma?
Hi,
No, a diploma holder cannot appear for the IIT entrance examination. But if you have completed your HSC in Science, then you are eligible irrespective of whether you have a diploma or not. If you have passed your HSC in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English, then you are eligible to appear for the entrance examination. If you in SYJC and expect to complete HSC in the year in which you seek admission to IIT, then also you can appear for the entrance examination. IIT-JEE is conducted in two stages now – IIT-JEE Preliminary examination and IIT-JEE Final examination. To appear in the IIT-JEE Final examination, you have to qualify in the preliminary examination. Notification of the preliminary examination is published all the leading English daily newspapers in India in the month of July/August. |

Re: Can I join IIT after completing my Diploma?
Hi,
IIT is known as Indian Institute of Technology. IIT colleges are topmost colleges in India for B.Tech and M.Tech. So take admission in IIT you will go through the IIT - JEE exam. but IIT-JEE exam is not for diploma students . IIT - JEE exam is only for 10+2 with PCM Subjects students. So, Sorry can't join IIT after Diploma. If you want to do B.Tech then Andhra Pradesh is best because H'Bad is also known as Information TEchnology City. You can get admission in Jawaharlal Nehru University by giving ECET exam. If you want to know more details about the ECET feel free to leave thread on this forum... Cool... |

Re: Can I join IIT after completing my Diploma?
The answer is quite simple. There is no provision for diploma holders to apply for Indian Institute of Technology and National Institute of Technology. Unfortunately both these institutes do not offer lateral entry scheme.
Since there is no lateral entry scheme, diploma holders are unable to apply for the admission in IIT. The IIT only offers admission through entrance exam known as IIT-JEE. Although this entrance exam is all set to be replaced by ISEET in 2013. For a candidate to appear for IIT-JEE/ISEET requires to have completed minimum of 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry and Maths as the subjects. This itself makes it impossible for diploma holders to apply for IIT-JEE. The diploma course is taken after completing 10th, but the entrance exam require minimum qualification of 12th. Unfortunately diploma is not considered equal to the 12th standard. This rules out of the possibility of diploma holders applying for the Indian Institute of Technology. Same rules are applied for National Institute of Technology. It offers admission through AIEEE entrance exam which also requires candidate to have completed 12th standard. Therefore you will have to apply for admission in colleges that offer lateral entry admission. Lateral Entry admission means that candidates with diploma are offered admission into the second year of B.Tech course. There are various engineering colleges in India that offer lateral entry admission. Some of them even reserves some seats for the Lateral entry candidates. For admission you will have to appear for LEET entrance exam. Lateral Entry Engineering Test (LEET) is conducted in various states across the country. You will need minimum of 60 percent marks in diploma to appear for this entrance exam. However there are some universities that prefers to conduct their own written test. |

Re: Can I join IIT after completing my Diploma?
Dear Friend,
Sorry to say but you cannot join the IIT if you have completed Diploma. This is because as per the minimum qualifications for IIT JEE , the minimum educational qualification you should have is 12th pass with PCM from any recognized board with a minimum of 60% marks. There is no provision for Diploma holders to appear in the IIT Joint Entrance Examination. So , There is no way out for you to be able to sit in the IIT Examination. This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Hope the information will help you to the extent you want. |
