I am 29 years old and my education is 10+2(PCM),I am colour-blind also,can I join merchant navy.

The minimum education qualification required to join merchant navy is 12th standard with PCM as subjects. You do satisfy this criteria but there are other criteria too to be satisfied. This includes a minimum of 60% in these subjects. Also the upper age limit to apply is 20 years. Candidates applying need to have perfect eye vision. So since you have crossed the required age limit and the physical fitness standards are not met you cannot make a career in this field.

Merchant Navy deals with import and export. Its a commerical fleet which deals in cargo transportation. Today a lot of import and export is done through sea. Whether you are exporting heavy machinery, oil and much more, sea is the only mode of transportation. This is where Merchant Navy is required. As a officer in Merchant Navy you are subject of lots of perks which include bringing your wife to the travel journeys.


Eligibility Criteria:

If you want a top job in Merchant Navy which pays well and comes with lots of perks then you will have to complete Bachelors course in Nautical science or Marine engineering. Most of the top jobs are related to engineering and navigational fields such as marine engineers, radio officer, navigating officer etc.

To do Bachelors course in Nautical science or Marine engineering you need to complete Class 12th from a recognised board with PCM as the subjects.

Both male and female candidates are welcomed as long as they are unmarried.

The age limit is 20 years as for the September 1 of entry year. This rule is relaxed for SC/ST candidates by 5 years.

You will also require to meet physical requirements and pass the medical test. The requirements include 6/6 vision and no color blindness.

Direct Entry

Candidates who have completed 12th with PCM can get direct entry as Deck Cadets.

On the other hand B.Tech in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Technology candidates can also directly apply for jobs like Engine Cadet/ Fifth Engineer/ Junior Engineer.

In both cases candidates are required to go through few months of training before they will be given job.

However even in the direct entry mode, physical requirements stands which means candidates with color blindness are disqualified.


I am afraid since you have color blindness there is no way for you to get into Merchant Navy. This field is very strict about meeting physical criteria and no waiver is given to anyone. Every single candidate has to go through medical test to ensure he/she meets all the physical criteria. This rules out your any chance of making into Merchant Navy. I also think that you have surpassed the age limit too for Merchant Navy job.

now a days merchant navy is gaining importance in india. it deals with the import and export of goods(heavy machinery,oil etc) through sea. it includes traveling along with good salary.

1)age limitation-not more than 20 years on the 1st day of september on the joining year. age relaxed by 5 years for the sc/st candidates.
2)for entering into the navigation and engineering field you must have passed in physics,chemistry and mathematics in 10+2 examination from a recognized board, have a bachelor degree in nautical science or marine engineering. but entrance examinations are held for acquiring a bachelor degree in nautical science or marine engineering.
3)both male and female candidates are eligible(unmarried)
4)good eye vision and no color or night blindness.
you can also have direct entry
a bachelor degree of technology in electrical/mechanical are also eligible to apply for post like fifth engineer/junior engineer.
one can apply for deck cadre who have passed the 10+2 examination with PCM as elective subjects.
but the physical criteria remains the same. one will be given training under senior officers before they are sent on sea.

according to the rules of merchant navy you will not be eligible to join it. the physical fitness is determined by medical test conducted and no concession is given. and may be you have already covered the age limitation..

I am sorry to say but you will not be able to join merchant navy now as the upper age limit to do so is 19.5 to 20 years of age depending on the month of your birth.

Friend you are 29 years' of age so that you are not eligible for the post.

**Candidates have to complete 12 standard with PCM subjects.
