The IAS is the executive civil service branch of Government of the Republic of India. The IAS officer plays a vital role in the Central and state governments. They are the officers who have strategic positions across the country. The IAS officers are employed by the Union government through the UPSC exam.

The PCS or the Provincial Civil Service is basically the governmental services of the State Government. PSC officers mostly deals with the policy making process of the state to where they are allocated. The recruitment of the PCS officer is mainly through the PSC exam. Candidates who are the domicile resident of a particular state can only apply for the PSC.

IAS is Indian Administrative Services exam and is conducted by UPSC every year. This exam is a National Level exam and any Indian citizen can apply for this exam.

PCS is a State level exam conducted by Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission. Only domicile from Uttar Pradesh are eligible for UP PCS exam.

Hence the main difference is state government job and central government job.

From IAS exam you will get a central government job and from PCS you will get a state government job.

The qualification required in same for both exam.

One must be graduate in any discipline from a recognised university if they want to apply for IAS and PCS exam.

Age limit for IAS is 21 to 30 years for General Category candidate.

Age limit for PCS exam is 21 to 35 years for General category candidate.

There is age relaxation available for other categories based on Government rules.

The selection is based on following stages in IAS and PCS exam:

-Preliminary Exam

-Mains Exam

-Personal Interview
