Hello Sir/madam,
I wanted to know the minimum acceptable eye/vision standards for officer's entry in Indian Navy and Indian Army both.

INDIAN ARMY EYE SIGHT ELIGIBILITY :

The candidates must have a 6/6 eyesight in each eye with or without glasses.

INDIAN NAVY EYE SIGHT ELIGIBILITY :

The applicant must not be color or night blind. He can have vision of 6/12 correctable by glasses.

Hello......Indian Navy requires you to have perfect eyesight without any aid or any kind of eye disorder if your joining at NDA stage.The reason is that a lot of signals are given to ships in sea and perfect eyesight is needed to recognise them because slight error can cause a lot of problems.But if you don't have perfect eyesight you won't get rejected.You'll be given TR(Temporary rejection).You'll have a time of around 40 days to cure your eyes naturally.If you fail to do it,you'll be put under Indian army where your eyesight is not a problem.But for Indian Army also you must not be color and night blind.Spectacles are allowed
Remember all this is information is about NDA entry only.You please specify the next time about your type of entry.I told you about NDA because it is the most sought after type of entry.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR INDIAN NAVY UNDER UES (University Entry Scheme)

The University entry scheme for Indian Navy for Short Service Commisioned (SSC) officer is going to start from July 2011. The eligibility criteria is as follows...

-> Age Limit - 19-24 years.

-> Educational Qualification - 60 % aggregate in B.E/B.Tech in any of the AICTE approved college.

-> Physical Standards

-> Minimum Height Male - 157cms.
-> Minimum Height Female - 152 cms.

-> Eye Sight - 6/24, 6/24 correctable to 6/6 in each eye with glasses and should not be colour/night blind.

Well friend, vision improved by laser or LASIK is not accepted in indian navy unless it was performed at least six months before the reporting date.
Try doing yoga to improve your eyes

Hello friend,

Eye sight requirements for defence is :-

Army- max. 2.5D for both eyes
Navy- max. 0.75D for both eyes
Air Force- max. 0.75 without myopia for both eyes.

So I think you are not fit to go to indian navy. However there are chances for you to go to indian army, if you can slightly improve the vision of one of your eye...
Try practicing yoga.....

Sorry Friend, but your are not fit to go to army wing of the NDA, as far as the eye sight is concerned..
Because maximum upto -2.5D is acceptable.

There are better scope in other fields also like engineering, IAS,etc..
Give your best to go to these fields.

Friend,

Maximum acceptable vision for indian navy is -0.75 in both eyes..

Presently you are not fit to go to navy, but you are fit for indian army where maximum acceptable vision is -2.5.

Since, you are nearly fit to go to indian navy so I suggest you to some yoga to lower the power of one of your eye..

Congratulation for being shortlisted,
Max acceptable eye standards for Defence forces are:-
Air Force- -0.75 without myopia for both eyes
Navy - -0.75 for both eyes
Army - -2.5 for both eyes

As per me you are just fit to go to indian army, whether it is NDA or TES

Sorry Friend,

Problems such as cataract, night blindness and colorblindness are not permitted in the armed forces.
So I suggest you to think about other opportunities like engineering, medical or civil service...............

i want to ask onething...I have gone thru the navy criteria...Eye Sight - 6/24, 6/24 correctable to 6/6 in each eye with glasses and should not be colour/night blind.
Now my Eyepower is -3.25 and -4.5....but on my prescription it is written that VA(Visual Acuity) is 6/6 on both eyes. Does this mean am eligible?? i have power in my eyes though

I am blind in one eye(left one) from birth. I dont have problem in seeing or shootin baloons in fare and all. i have passed civil engineering. so can i apply for the engineer's post in the army??

Yes LASIK can be done to be medically fit for Indian Navy, But it should be done 6 months prior to the commencement of the course.
You will not be eligible for aviation branch in Indian Navy after LASIK.

Well, Friend LASIK as such is not accepted. But it can be accepted in entries such as CDSE, UES, TGC etc. only if you have attained the age of 20 at the time of operation and its been minimum 6 months before commencement of the course.

Well Friend,

Its good that you want to join indian army, I want to tell you that LASIK surgery is accepted in indian army(except NDA entry) only if you have attained the age of 20 yrs at the time of surgery.
The time required between surgery and reporting is 6 months

Sorry Friend,

In your situation you are not medically fir for a post in indian army as physically challenged persons are not fit for defence services(except in SSC/ IAS).

I think you should go for better opportunities in govt. sector like.....
Engineering Services Exam conducted by UPSC.
Civil Services Exam.

The power of glasses should be maximum -2.5 for indian army which is max 6/18 for both eyes.

hello guyz my name is kunwar razi ahmad khan .. i cleared my ssb for 10 2 technical entry ...
my eyesight repoted by R&R hospital army delhi cantt is -0.75(LE with distant vision 6/9) and -0.25(RE with distant vision 6/6).. i have been declatred unfit .. the reason dey gave was dat atleast one of my eyes should be myopic free which means that -0.25 in right eye is the reason for my unfittness fr indian navy ....

so the new standard of indian navy for eyes for 10 2 tech entry is

6/6 good eye and 6/9 bad eye with maximum power acceptable to -0.75 in one of the eye and other eye should be myopia free....

hope dis info will work out
my rejection doesnt have any effect on my aim i want to join navy nw or later .... inshallah i will do btech and will again apply fr UES entry .. plz pray fr me ..

Friend,

You eyesight is fine and you are fit for army, so I suggest you go for SSB and do not worry about the eyesight. Eyesight parameters are as follows.....

Army - max -2.5 for both eyes
Navy - max -0.75 for both eyes
Air Force - no vision defect is permissible.

Indian Navy and Indian Army both are very good and Governmental organization. For these two organization eye sight is very important factor for a candidate compared to other criteria. Although age educational qualification is mandatory but hare as you only want to know about the eye sight for a candidate, so I just tell you only the eye sight required for these two above mentioned organization. Here it is :

Eye Sight for INDIAN ARMY ::

candidate must have 6/6 eye sight in both eyes with or without glasses.

Eye Sight for INDIAN NAVY ::

candidate must have 6/24 eye sight in both eyes with or without glasses.


In both cases candidate must not have any color or night blindness.

>> good binocular vision in both eyes. He should be able to read 6/6 in distance vision chart with each eye.
