To become an IAS officer, first of all you will need to complete your bachelors degree program in any discipline from a recognized university. Upon completion of your bachelors degree program, you will need to write the civil service examination which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission. There is no particular specialization need to be done to be eligible for the Civil Service Examination. If you are a graduate within the age limit of 21-30 years, you can certainly write the examination to become an IAS Officer.

This civil service exam consists of written examination and interview. You should keep in mind that in order to be considered for the post of IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer, you have become one of the best strikers in the examination.

The written examination is conducted in two stages and is based on the following subject areas:
  • General Studies
  • Civil Service Aptitude Test
  • English
  • Essay Writing
  • One Indian Regional Language

In addition, there is also provision for electives in the second stage of written examination, where candidates can choose any two subjects, depending on the experience and expertise in specific areas.
