To become IPS officer, you have to write Civil service exam conducted by UPSC.The eligibility conditions for the exam are :

## You must be a graduate in any discipline from a recognised university.
$## Your age must be greater than 21 as on 1st Sept of the year you are applying.

IPS is one of the ALL India Allied services provided, once you clear this exam. The post highly competitive among aspirants. Designations like DSP, SP , Commissioner are given to pass outs after training for IPS.

Since you are a software engineer, although its not much related with the syllabus of exam, but definitely of much use, once you clear this exam. You can work for Ciber crimes department of CBI or other investigation organisation is different states.

So, first complete your engineering, then apply for this exam, you can even apply in final year of your Btech. You can start preliminary preparation from now onwards. This exam requires extensive knowledge about current affairs, general awareness about all aspects of country like economy, legislation, laws, politics etc.

Of the total 900 candidates selected in this exam, approx 150 are selected for IPS. After selection, you will be trained for two in IPS academy in Hyderabad.

For OBC, the maximum age requirement becomes 33 and for SC/ST it becomes 35 while minimum age remains the same for all three categories.

I am happy to say that you are eligible for I.P.S after passing B.Tech in software engineering.

For I.P.S you have to qualify the entrance exam that is Civil Services Exam.

Civil Services Exam is conducted by U.P.S.C once in a year..

Age should be in between 21-30 year. For ST/SC candidate age should be in between 21-33 year.

You can apply online or offline.
The Form cost is just 20 Rs.
