I prepare for gate-2013 so suggest that how we prepare for the gate entrance ?

for ECE department which book is best to prepare the GATE exam?

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering(GATE) is an all India examination conducted fro admission of M.Tech course in IIT Level colleges.

So if you want to apply to GATE Exam you must ahve comleted your B.E OR B.tech from recongnized university.

There is no age limit to GATE Exam.

Also there is no any limit on attempt of GATE Exam.


Now we start our main purpose which you want to know about preapration.

You should first understand the syllabus and exam pattern which will help you preparation strategies. You can see the exam pattern in following chart

You should minutely analyze and define as to where you could have scored more; analyze your accuracy rates in various topics and maintain a topic wise datasheet.

You can join some coaching institutes as part of the preparation for the GATE exam.


As the Gate portion is based on the subjects of the engineering course, if you have good knowledge about all the subjects you can easily attend the exam.


You need to attend the mock tests and practice accordingly to manage the time.

Always follow standard books.
Try to Expertise any portion of the syllabus.
Prepare notes and solve mock papers.
Do a Chapter wise Study and make a habit of asking question to yourself.

The syllabus for GATE Exam for Civil is attached, So please check it out.

Regarding the preparation for the Exam, you will need to have clear concepts to
crack this Exam as about 85% of the questions come from the subjects which you have learnt in the Civil department. The rest 15% questions are general Aptitude questions. You can refer to these books for the preparation:

GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. This Entrance Exam is being conducted by 7 IITs to give admission for Post Graduation course of M.Tech in several colleges across India.

One should get good score in GATE Exam if they have strong preparation.

I have seen number of candidates who have prepared for GATE Exam in short time and got admission in IITs.

To apply for this Exam,

You should have completed your Graduation in Engineering with any of the stream from a recognized university.

Candidates who are pursuing final year of Graduation in Engineering can also apply for this Exam.

There is no upper age limit to apply for this Exam.

There is no limit on number of attempts as well.

To get good score in GATE Exam,

Have strong preparation for all the academic subjects which are related to GATE and revise the things for number of times.

Try to be strong enough in Fundamentals which plays a key role in understanding and answering any type of question.

Get the previous year papers and model question papers for this exam and practice them well.

Try to discuss regarding the concepts with your friends and lecturers so that you will never forget them and sometimes you can get extra points also due to these discussions.

Don't neglect Reasoning and Aptitude stuff also. This will also decide your final score.

If possible, try to have the preparation from a Coaching Institute. Their Coaching will be more related towards cracking GATE Exam.
