I am second year ECE student and gate aspirant.I want to know that is it too early to start preparing for gate or is it the right time..... And please suggest me some tips to crack gate apart from time management and collecting previous years paper

You can start preparing for the exam. You should first begin with preparing a list of areas you need to prepare. Information regarding this is available in the GATE site. You need to make sure you devote fixed time daily for preparing. You should start solving past papers only when you are sure that you have prepared well in all the areas as per the list prepared.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
You can start your preparation right from the second year itself my friend it's nothing wrong.Try finish the topics covered as early as possible so that you can remember them with ease.Until last year even the pre final years had the chance of appearing for the exam but this year it is changed that only the final years can appear for the exams.
Any ways to start your preparation right now first of all download the syllabus of GATE this year and try to finish the topics covered so far in your class room as per the semester-wise.Try to cover the same topic in a number
of books.This you can do only if you start your preparation right from the scratch.

for any exam preparation it is not possible to say the right time for the preparation. One can start at any time they wish to prepare . GATE being a exam conducted for engineers the right time for preparing for the exam will be from the third year as the aspirant will be studying the subject in the third year only.
The syllabus for the gate exam include those subjects which the aspirant has studied during engineering course. And one can appear only in the final year.
To crack the exam you the important thing you need to do is study the subject by understanding the concepts. Most of the questions asked in the exam are only basic and a good preparation will help you to crack the exam.
Refer more books and question papers. Questions will be in such a manner that it will cover all the subjects. Give more importance to the mathematical sums.
