there is no limitation in the number of attempts in GATE examination. you may appear in GATE examination any number of time. after B.Tech at any level you may appear in GATE examination. there is no age criterion also to appear in GATE examination. you may appear in GATE examination after your B.Tech in biotechnology or you may also appear in the GATE examination when you are in last year of B.Tech.

i think to appear in GATE examination only criterion is you should have B.Tech degree. if you don't have mathematics in 12th and you studied B.Tech in Biotechnology so there may not be any problem to take admission in M.Tech in IIT. i think you are eligible to take admission in IIT. to be confirm you may call or send email to your zonal IIT office. they will help you giving correct information about your eligibility.you should secure very good GATE score to take admission in M.Tech in IIT.

now the form fill up for GATE examination is going on. for eligibility criterion, information brochure and any other details about GATE examination click here

best wishes.

Dear pal, there is no restriction to the number of attempts for the GATE exam which is being conducted every year. GATE is one of the prestigious exam conducted in India.
The GATE marks is valid for a period of two years. With this qualification you can apply for admission into the masters course and you can also apply for many government jobs.
Yes it is necessary for you to have chosen maths in 12th without which you will not be eligible for doing engineering.GATE being a aptitude exam for engineers you need to choose maths.

There is nothing mentioned about number of attempts one can make in GATE exam. That is the best thing and there is no age limit too. As of now, the organizers don’t maintain the database of student taking GATE exam and use it to verify that every time.

The bottom line is you can make as many attempts to GATE exam as you want. There is no limit on number of attempts in eligibility for GATE exam.

To appear for the GATE (GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST FOR ENGINEERS) EXAM one must be a graduate in engineering in any discipline. So Math whether in 12th or not is not a criteria for GATE exam.
