For being an IPS officer you have to appear in civil services exam conducted by UPSC.
UPSC conducts civil services examination every year and this is the only way to be an IPS officer.

To join Indian Police Service you should pass out batchalor degree in any stream of Science/arts or commerce. Then you have to prepare for Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exaim that is contain Priliminary, main and finally interview and based on all these score they allocate candidate for IPS or IAS. Those candiadte have completed graduation in any discipline from recognized university are eligible for IPS exam.

But your age should be in between 21-30years for general candidate.
In IPS exam their is provide age relaxation for OBC candiadte is 3years and for SC/ST candiadte is 5 years.

The maximum attempts for Sc/ST candiadte is Unlimited. For OBC candiadte it is 7 years and for general candidate it will be 5 years.
