Hello everyone, I want to become an Income Tax Officer. So, I would like to know that what qualification is essentially required for becoming an Income Tax Officer. Kindly let me know immediately.

The basic eligibility criteria required for becoming Income tax officer are mentioned below:

- The candidate should be a citizen of India.
- The educational qualification required is a graduation or its equivalent education in any stream from any recognised university.
- The age should be between 18 - 27 years.
- There is 3 years age relaxation for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ ST candidates.

Candidates after qualifying in Civil Service Examination will become eligible for recruitment as an I.R.S Officer.

You can either appear the SSC or the UPSC exam.
OR
You need to be a graduate in any discipline. If you apply for SSC CGLE exam and chose ITI and clear it , you may become Income tax inspector. Soon after few years you will be promoted as Income tax officer.

So basically your minimum requirement is a graduation in any case.

The recruitment examination for selection in Inocme Tax department is conducted by UPSC and SSC.

Civil Services Examination is conducted by UPSC and CGL is conducted by SSC. The required minimum qualification to appear in examination is candidate must have passed bachelor degree from a recognised university.

Age limit varies for different examination and well as for different category.
