Re: Should I leave my government job to prepare for IES?
It is not appropriate to resign from such a lucrative job. You can do preparation in your free hours. If you are dedicated, then you can definitely clear the exam. Try to follow a regular routine for exam preparation. If you are much confident in clearing the exam, after leaving the present the job, only then do it.

Re: Should I leave my government job to prepare for IES?
First you should see why are you not satisfied with the current job? If its about the money, as you mentioned that you are being paid handsomely therefore don't expect IES to offer you any better salary.
If the government job you have taken up is not up to the level of your qualification, then it would make sense to leave the job. However whatever may be the reason, I would strongly recommend against quiting the job. There is no reason t quit as for now. You can prepare for the IES exam after working hours and weekends. But then again, you would have to give yourself proper time to prepare for the IES Exam. I would say at least 6 months would require for a working person to prepare for the Indian Engineering Service Exam. All you need to do is commit around 2-3 hours every day and around 5-6 hours or more during the weekends. This would be enough to prepare you for the IES entrance exam. Therefore it is not necessary to quit the job. Such move could be disasterous if for some reason you failed to crack the IES Exam. At least you would still have your job if decides against quitting. Think about it and avoid quitting your well paid government job. Please also make sure that you are still eligible for the Indian Engineering Exam. Below are the requirements. >>>> Eligibility <<<< >> Candidate should be Indian Citizen. >> A B.Tech degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Electronics and Communication Engineering from a recognised university is required. >> Your age should be 21 to 30 years for the IES Exam. >> The upper age limit for OBC is 33 years. >> Age limit for SC/ST is 21 to 35 years. |

Quote:
According to me you should not leave your government job. you should feel lucky that atleast you have a government job. Every year millions of aspiring candidate give competitive examination in order to get a small government job. I don't think you need to leave your current Good job in order to give IES Examination. You can do your job and prepare for exam simultaneously. You just need to study hard and have to give full dedication to the examination. You know there are many many candidate who do their MBA while doing their job. Like in the same many many aspirants prepare themselves for IAS/IES/IPS examination while also doing a job simultaneously to fulfill their daily expenses, to buy books, coaching.. So similarly you can also do it if you have passion for the examination. You need to prepare a time table and have to plan your studies. without planning and preparation you won't be able to achieve maximum marks in examination. So now it is upto you whether you need to leave your current job to prepare for IES preparation. All the best. Regards. |

Re: Should I leave my government job to prepare for IES?
Iam currently working in a engg PSU. I want to prepare for ESE but don't get proper time for it while working due to various reasons-
1. Hectic field maintenance job with load. sometimes Iam at work for 12-13 hrs. and there is no proper time schedule while in maintenance kind profile. 2. No moral booster or motivation at all due to very remote location. Even I dont able to get some basic needs. What should I do??? Should I quit the job??? Iam not able to decide what to do. Iam not comfortable with the working conditions either. My family donot want me to quit the job, neither Iam able to have courage to quit. A kind of frustation developing in my mind. Every time when I try to follow a scheduled time table for study, it lasts only for 2-3 days due to uncertain timings of the job. |
