Chartered Accountancy Course offered by the ICAI is one of the most difficult courses in India. You can guess it from the fact that less than 20 percent students manages to pass Chartered Accountacy course every year. It is awfully low number.

There are three stages of Chartered Accountancy course.

1. Common Proficiency Test (CPT)

2. Integrated Professional Competancy Test (IPPC)

3. Final Course

CPT

The first stage of ICAI CA is the Common Proficiency Test. CPT is a 200 marks test where you need to score 30 percent marks in both sections and total of 50 percent marks to qualfy it. Any candidate who has completed 10th can register for the exam. However you can only give the exam after completing 12th.

There are four subjects in the CPT.

1. Fundamentals of Accountancy
2, Economics
3. Mercantile Law
4. Quantitative Aptitude

IPCC

Integrated Professional Competancy Course (IPCC) is the second stage of Chartered Accountancy course. There are two ways to get admission for the course. Firstly you can get admission after completing the Common Proficiency Test.

However recently ICAI has made changes that allows graduates to take direct admission. You need to meet the requirements:

A commerce graduation degree with at least 55 percent marks.

Non commerce degree with at least 60 percent marks.

Those who meet this requirement can take direct admission. There are total of 7 papers in IPCC.

Group 1

1. Accounting
2. Business Laws,Ethics and Communication
3. Cost Accounting and Financial Management
4. Taxation

Group 2

5. Advanced Accounting
6. Auditing and Assurance
7. Information Technology and Strategic Management

Final Course

Third and final stage of Chartered Accountancy is Final course. Most students find Final Course to be the most difficult. There is no direct admission for Final Course. You can only get admission after completing IPCC.

Group 1

1. Financial Reporting
2. Strategic Financial Management
3. Advanced Auditing and Professional Ethics
4. Corporate and Allied Laws

Group 2

5. Advanced Management Accounting
6. Information System control and Audit
7. Direct Tax Laws
8. indirect tax Laws
