Be very particular about choosing your subjects,
The Subjects are:

# General Studies
# Agriculture
# Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
# Botany
# Chemistry
# Civil Engineering
# Commerce
# Economics
# Electrical Engineering
# Geography
# Geology
# Indian History
# Law
# Mathematics
# Mechanical Engineering
# Medical Science
# Philosophy
# Physics
# Political Science
# Psychology
# Public Administration
# Sociology
# Statistics
# Zoology

generally History, maths, geography are taken granted for scoring.
even electrical and civil are scoring
because they have large number of study material available added to the point of being theoretical subjects.
If its facts, then obviously its going to be more easy for you. facts don't change,
theories and laws do conflict each other.

hello frn,
what a irony dear that you are asking from paople that "what shold be my choice?"
actually you should understand your interset that what you want? what is easy for you?
there are no. of options from where you can choose but choose the subjects which are familiar to you. Dont go to others opinion, as if they say that this particular subject is easy but non-understandable to you than take that. so, decide the subject as per your intersert .
i know that this suggestion is very weired but things can only made easy and smooth if thay are familiar to you. so, try to have a brief look of all the subjects and then choose tham acc. to your ease....

like you already know that this year UPSC has introduced CSAT(Civil services aptitude test) it is basically of matriculation level so all the papers you would be attempting would be compulsory. The syllabus for CSAT is as follows:
(Paper 1) (200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs.
· Current events of national and international importance · History of India and Indian national movement · Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world · Indian Polity and governance %u2013 constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc. ·Economic and social development %u2013 sustainable development, poverty, inclusion,
demographics, social sector initiatives etc. · General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change-that donot
require subject specialization · General science.
(Paper II) (200 marks) %u2013 Duration : Two hrs
· Comprehension · Interpersonal skills including communication skills · Logical reasoning and analytical ability · Decision making and problem solving · General mental ability · Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level),
Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. %u2013Class X level) · English language comprehension skills (Class X level)

Hi Vaidehi,

I have written IAS prelims once.....I have heard(after consulting with a known coaching institute) that it is better to take up Indian History or Psychology as optional subject....It is preferable not to take Engineering subjects because it is very tough as we have to compete with IIT students........Maths is a preferrable option if you are a degree/Msc mathematics person......The question paper has no relation with the engineering mathematics......This is what i feel from my very little experience........Hope it has been useful..........All the best

Indian Administrative Service (IAS)

Yes you are eligible for IAS examination.

The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the administrative civil service of the executive branch of the Government of the Republic of India.

Civil Service Exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission.

It has three stages selection procedure
- Preliminary Exam,
- a Main exam, and
- an interview.

Recently the preliminary exam pattern has been changed. There used to be 23 optional subjects along with a general studies paper.

Now there will be no optional subjects in the preliminary examination. Instead there will be a second paper which will be common for all candidates. It will check the administrative aptitude of candidates-hence its name - the Civil Service Aptitude Test [CSAT].

It comprises of Aptitude, General Mathematics,Comprehensive English, etc.

Here is

Eligibility criteria:-

a) Educational Qualification:

Must have graduation from recognized university.

b) Age limit:-

Minimum 21 years and maximum 30 years.

Relaxation for category holders:
1. For SC/ST 5 years.
2.For OBC 3 years.

For complete details please visit official website of UPSC http://www.upsc.gov.in

All the Best...

DEAR NIKITA,
as you are in final year of the graduation with the subjects economics, public administration , political science . it is very nice thing to have such subjects with the graduation.

for your kind information these economics , public administration and political science are the one of the optional subjects of the ias preliminary exam.

means you can choose any of that three subject as your optional subject for the preliminary exam of ias services .

there are three steps of the exam that are

1) preliminary exam
2) main exam
3) interview

these three exam are dependent of each other in the sense, if you pass the preliminary exam then you are called for main exam and if you crack the main exam then you will be called for interview.

so nikita , it is the better thing that you choose the subject in which you feel comfort.
means better you select one of subject of your final year graduation.

best luck for your future , thanks

Dear Aspirant
You should for subjects that are easy to score and in which you feel you have sound knowledge
One subject can be from your graduation as you have studied them for three or four years
So you have good basic knowledge
Second you can take an easy scoring subject like Public Administration
Good Luck
