The Indian Civil Service has great respect and responsibilities. Corporate jobs may offer more perks, but an entry to Civil Service as officers is considered prestigious by many Indian youngsters. Entry into the IAS, IPS and the Central Services, Group A and Group B is through the All India Combined Competitive Examination for the Civil Services conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). One has to put a lot of time and energy to come out successful in Civil Service Examination. There are many services one can opt if successful in the examination. At the top of the hierarchy of IAS officers is the Cabinet Secretary followed by Secretary/ Additional Secretary, Joint Secretary, Director, Under Secretary and then the Junior Scale Officers. These posts are filled according to seniority. The Indian Police Service (IPS) : The Indian Police Service is mainly public safety and security. The Indian Police Service is divided into various departments like the Crime Branch, the Criminal Investigation Department, Home Guards and the Traffic Bureau. The area of functioning for the IPS can be broadly divided into: maintenance of law and order, crime prevention and detection, traffic control and accident prevention and management. It has three stages: ->Preliminary Exam ->Main exam ->Interview - and is known for being extremely challenging. Recently the preliminary exam pattern has been changed. There used to be 23 optional subjects along with a general studies paper. Now there will be no optional subjects in the preliminary examination. There will be a second paper which will be common for all candidates. The Civil Service Aptitude Test [CSAT].It comprises of Aptitude, General Mathematics,Comprehensive English, etc. UPSC Main Examination - Optional Subjects General Studies Essay English Qualifying Indian Languages Mathematics Agriculture Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science Botany Chemistry Civil Engineering Commerce Economics Electrical Engineering Geography Geology Indian History Law Mathematics Management Mechanical Engineering Medical Science Philosophy Physics Political Science Psychology Public Administration Sociology Statistics Zoology Anthropology Arabic Assamese Bengali Bodo Chinese Dogri English French German Gujarati Hindi Kannada Kashmiri Konkani Maithili Malayalam Manipuri Marathi Nepali Oriya Pali Persian Punjabi Russian Sanskrit Santali Sindhi Tamil Telugu Urdu Well,this was just the examination description in short. UPSC means Union Public Service Commission. Indian Civil services Examination are conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) for the following posts: - (i) Indian Administrative Service (IAS) (ii) Indian Foreign Service (IFS) (iii) Indian Police Service (IPS) (iv) Indian Engineering Service (IES) (v) Indian Audit and Accounts Service (vi) Indian Customs and Central Excise Services. (vii) Indian Revenue Service (IRS) (viii) Indian Ordnance Factories Service (ix) Indian Postal Service (IPS) (x) Indian Trade Services (ITS) ....... etc. Eligibility criteria for UPSC exam are as follows: - 1. Pass graduation / Bachelor’s degree in any subject or in any engineering stream or equivqlent from a recognised institute / university. 2. Age - 21 Years to 30 Years for General candidates, 21 Years to 33 Years for OBC candidates and 21 Years to 35 Years for SC / ST candidates. 3. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is a constitutional body in India authorized to conduct examinations for appointment to the various Civil Services of India. UPSC is Union Public Service Commission.
It is responsible for conducting exam to appoint people for various post as an cntral government employee. They conduct exams for various post like IAS,IPS,IES,etc. Candidate which are able to clear these exams are further selected for interviews or higher rounds of selection.
