For Indian Administrative Service and various other civil service, one needs to qualify civil service examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission. The commission conducts the examination once a year and candidates willing to appear for the examination needs to apply online through www.upsconline.nic.in.
The online application forms are made available as soon as the notification is published by the commission.

Now, as far as eligibility criteria for the civil service exam is concerned, a graduate in any discipline may apply provided (s)he is within the age limit of 21-30 years. The maximum age limit is relaxed for candidates belonging to reserved category. For OBC category, the maximum age limit is 33 years and for candidates belonging to SC/ST category, the maximum age limit is 35 years.

For further information, you may refer to the official website of Union Public Service Commission.

Hi friend,

IAS Exam Procedure

The Application Procedure for the Civil Services Examination has been completely digitized at the preliminary level and applications can be made only online. This is going with the need for bureaucrats to be net savvy. No more the forms that need to filled and posted to UPSC. Even admit cards will be issued online and candidates are expected to download their copies between fixed days.
Scheme of the Examination
The successive stages of examination are:
  1. Preliminary Examination for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination
  2. Main Examination (Written) for the selection of candidates for interview for a Personality Test.
  3. Interview (Personality Test)

To become Indian Administrative Service officer, you will have to clear the Civil Services Examination which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.

This exam is held every year and there are limited number of attempts for General and OBC candidates. You have to clear the exam within this limit.

There is a need to complete graduation before you can apply for the Civil Services Examination. Its basically up to you to decide the course and university for the graduation. UPSC has no issue with any graduation degree as long as you complete it from a recognized college.

Once you have obtained the degree from recognized college, you can appear for the Civil Services Examination. You will have to register for the entrance exam. Without registering through the proper process, you can not appear for the exam.

There is also a fee to register for the entrance exam. The registration is done some time towads the early part of the year. Although this is not the rule.

You should not wait till registration to start preparations for the exam. Start studying as soon as you complete graduation. Give yourself 8-10 months to prepare for the exam, otherwise it could become very difficult to clear the entrance exam.

IAS Eligibility

1. The subject should be national of India.

2. Bachelor's degree in any discipline is required.

3. Marks in graduation does not matter.

4. You should be minimum of 21 years old.

5. The upper age limit is 30 years but only for General candidates.

6. For OBC, upper age limit is 33 years.

7. While for SC and ST its 35 years.

8. Unlike IPS, there are no physical requirements for IAS.

9. General candidate can appear only 4 times for Civil Services Examination.

10. OBC is given 7 chances to clear the exam.

11. There is no limit for SC/ST.

Selection Procedure

1. Preliminary Exam

2. Main Exam

3. Personal Interview
