Hi,
There are several changes brought by IUPAC in preliminary exam from 2011 onwards.
Earlier there were two objective papers, general studies paper and another one is the optional subject you take out me 23 subjects from the IUPAC list. But now the *optional subject is replaced by 'Aptitude Paper'. So the preliminary exam is now called Civil Service Aptitude Test(CSAT).
Weightage of General studies paper was 150marks and that of optional subject was 300. But now
* equal weightage is given to both general studies paper and aptitude paper.
*Equal weightage for all kind of graduates.(graduates and post graduates).
*Complete transparency in disclosure of marks.
*There is no desparity between optional subjects.
*All students have equal oppurtunity. Since everyone has to prepare in similar pattern.
Aptitude paper tests you in public administration, psychology, sociology and anthropology. These changes are made to assess your moral and ethical values, logical and reasoning ability. The thing is that these changes are only applied to the preliminary exam.

There is change only in the preliminary round. The main exam is the same as before. In the prelim. there is no optional paper. You have to face questions from aptitude and reasoning part.

there is no change in the mains paper ,there is only change in the prelims paper where the subject paper has been removed and replaced by CSAT paper,
as for as the subject you want to choose its entirely your choice because its only you who knows in which subject you are good,
you will get all the information about the different subjects and there syllabus at www.upsc.gov.in

Hi,

The only change is that in prelims you do not have to choose any subjects.
Prelims will be CSAT and will comprise of aptitude and General knowledge.
