IPS stands for Indian Police Service while IAS stands for Indian Administrative Service. To recruit for IAS and IPS, Union Public Service Commission conducts Civil Service Exam.

The role of IPS officer and IAS is quite different. The role of IPS officer is control law and order situation and provide security cover to VIPs. IPS officer also participate in anti terror operations with BSF and CRPF in the bordering areas. IPS officer also has to play critical role in the naxal affected areas for the anti naxal operations.


On the other hand IAS officer has to draft and implement policy for the government. IAS officer has to ensure that policy is being implemented properly and therefore has to consistently travel such places. In situation of drought, floods, earthquake etc. IAS gives valuable feedback to the government which helps in relief work.


Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for IAS and IPS is same.

1. Candidate should be Indian.

2. Graduation degree in any stream.

3. Age limit is 21 to 30 years.

3. Three years relaxation in upper age for OBC.

4. Five years relaxation for SC/ST

hi,
civil services exam is conducted by upsc every year for recruitment to various posts such as IAS, IPS, IFS etc. the pattern of thus exam is as below-


preliminary - general studies & CSAT


main- general studies (two papers), two optional subjects(two paper each), essay, english grammar , one Indian language.

interview.

eligibility- graduation from any stream and age between 21 to 30 years for general candidates.

students in final year of graduation are also eligible for this exam.

you should be very dedicated, and should make a habit of reading news papers, magazines etc, this will help you in tackling general studies. for other subjects you can prefer the ncert books from 9th class to 12th class. you can also join some coaching institute.

Junior Scale:

In Junior Scale the new recruit joins at the payband 3, that is, Rs: 15,600 – 39,100.

In addition he gets a Grade Pay of Rs 5400. This is the time of training and learning. The new recruit is placed into a two years probation period. After that he is posted as a SDM ( Sub Divisional Magistrate ), also known as SDO or Sub-Collector.

I am studing ba english for degree and I am general.hw many mark percentage need for degree to apply of ips...my ampition is to became an ips officer.there ia any other problem?
