IAS and IPS exam is conducted by UPSC through Civil Service Exam.

IAS stands for Indian Administrative Service

IPS stands for Indian Police Service

Those candidate who have completed graduation degree from recognized university are eligible for IPS/IAS exam.Final year student are also eligible for IPS/IAS Exam.

The Candidates age should between 21 years to 30 years for general candidates .

Permissible No of Attempts in IAS/IPS exam -

The best thing about Civil Services Examinations conducted by Union Public Service Commission for different services like Indian Administrative Services, Indian Police Services etc is that it only requires passing percentage of marks in bachelor's degree.

So there is no issue in your case as you have passed your graduation in arts with 40% marks, you can appear for the Civil Services examinations.

Other than academic qualification, what you need to meet is the age criteria. The age limit for candidates of general category is 21-30 years with relaxation age applicable to OBC and SC/ST candidates.

The date of notification for Civil Services examination will be out on 16/03/2015. After that you can apply for this exam at the official website www.upsconline.nic.in.

Number of Attempts:

>>General Candidate: 4

>>OBC candidate: 7

>>SC/ST candidate: no limit.

This entrance exam has three stages:

First one is the preliminary stage which you need to clear for entering into second stage called Mains exam. Third stage is Personal Interview.

Preparation of ranking list for different services is done on basis of marks obtained in Mains and interview.

To apply for IPS, IAS posts, you need to crack CSAT exam conducted by UPSC.

Eligibility for CSAT exam:-

You must have completed graduation degree from recognized university to apply for CSAT exam.

Your age should between 21 years to 30 years for general candidates with relaxation age applicable to OBC and SC/ST candidates.

No of Attempts in CSAT exam:

• For General Category - 4
• For OBC - 7
• For SC/ST - No limit
