How i can become a sales tax or income tax officer

To become Income Tax officer or Inspector of INCOME TAX in CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes), you are required to given "Combined Graduate Level (CGL)" Examination which is conducted by Staff Selection Commission every year. The minimum educational qualification required is "Bachelor Degree" from a recognized university, so if you have completed Graduation then you can apply for SSC CGL Recruitment. While applying for SSC CGL Recruitment, you are required to prefer the "Inspector of Income Tax" post as your first preference. The code for Inspector of Income Tax Post is "J", so you are required to give J as your first preference while filling SSC CGL Application Form.

Minimum Age Required - 18 years

Maximum Age Required - 27 years

Grade Classification - Group "C"

SSC CGL Recruitment notification gets released in the month of April/ May in any given year, so I suggest you to start your strong preparation to give this CGL Exam well. So that whenever the notification gets released, you can easily apply for that recruitment as mentioned in the above instructions.

For sc/st 5 years age relaxation)

Selection process:
1. Computer based objective exam. 200 marks.
2. Computer based objective exam. English - 200 marks and mathematics -200 marks
3. Descriptive English 100 marks.

You can get job in CENTRAL Board of Direct Taxes as lncome Tax inspector through SSC CGL . After serving in CBDT for 3-4 years you will be Income tax officer.

• Educational qualification: Candidate must have completed graduation in any discipline from recognized university with minimum 50%.


• Age limit: Age limit is below 30 years for open category for Group B post. Age relaxation is applicable for backward classes as per government rules.


• Selection procedure: (1). Online objective based test
~ Tire 1- 100questions(reasoning,mathematics,English,general knowledge) ,200 marks.

(2). Tire 2- 100 questions (maths) 200 marks, 200 questions (English) 200 marks.

(3). offline written descriptive test of English essay / letter, 100 marks.
