If you want to pursue PhD course in life science then you need to have following eligibility criteria :

An M.Phil degree in life science from a recognized university OR

A Master's degree in life science from a recognized university OR

A master's degree in any other relevant areas of life sciences from a reputed university.

Candidate need to clear Entrance Examination and Interview process to get admission in PhD course in Life Science but those candidates who have either :

Having 05 years relevant teaching experience OR

Qualified in NET/ SET or GATE Entrance Examination OR

Who have completed M.Phil are not required to appear for entrance examination.

There is no age bar to get admission in PhD course of life science.

Life science is a complete subject which covers entire science part related to biology and its other sub branches so candidates may have a great career after completion of PhD in life science and may become lecturer or assistant professor or associate professor in any government college/ school and start their career.

There are some reputed universities in India which offers PhD in Life Science :

>> Jawaharlal Nehru University
>> Indra Gandhi National Open University
>> Central Drug Research Institute
>> Ahmedabad University
>> University of Hyderabad
>> Amity University
>> Central University of Tamil Nadu

There are the top level institutes and universities listed above and you can choose any one of these universities and start your course immediately.

The important thing to know is that, if you prepare for State Level State Service Examination conducted by every state of India and qualify this test then directly you can be ranked as a Professor in a reputed college when you will become assistant or associate professor in government college after PhD that is why you need to prepare for state level state service examination and qualify that for this reason and you will become a professor after qualifying it.

Once you have completed the course of M.Sc in Microbiology with at least 50% marks in the course then you will be allowed to sit for the Entrance Examination.
You will need to crack the NET Examination.
Once you have cracked the NET Examination you will be eligible to pursue the course of PhD in the University of your choice.
You will also be provided a Stipend by the Government as you are pursuing higher studies.
This is the best procedure to pursue the course of PhD with a stipend.
So you must prepare for the Entrance Examination and that will help you in the long run when you pursue the course of PhD.
