For receiving stipend by a GATE qualified student, whether the student should have Bank account in the same station where the college is situated or a bank account anywhere in India will serve the purpose?

You should not change the bank account; the bank passbook copy which is sent by you at the time of scholarship should be maintained. You should not change the Bank and Branch during the period of course. The details are available in the GATE Scholarship website, Click Here

After the Core Banking facility, you can perform the banking transaction from anywhere in India.

So, to avail the stipend given by the students through the GATE, you need to have a bank account and that's it.

You need to give the account number there and you will start receiving the stipend in the same account.

There is no need of opening a fresh bank account in order to receive the stipend of GATE. There is no such compulsion that the account should be in the same station where the college is situated. Account in any bank across India will be sufficient to receive the scholarship. You can also use any existing bank account which you hold. However, you must ensure that the account is under your name.
