Yes to be a CA there is an entrance test conducted called Common Proficiency Test or generally as CPT. The last date for submitting CPT application of June 2015 is over on 28th of April.
The minimum eligibility to write CPT is to be passed 12th or equivalent.

For full information on CPT and being a Chartered Accountant download this book. It is in Pdf format. So you will need an adobe reader to read the book.

Thumbs up Re: Is there any entrance exam to get admission in CA?

Yes CPT TEST Common Proficiency Test is necessary after clearing 12th standard if you want to become Chartered Accountant.

So if you decides to continue with your education and completed graduation, there may be some chance for you to skip the Common Proficiency Test. However If you want to pursue Chartered Accountancy after completing 12th then it becomes mandatory to appear for the Common Proficiency Test. There are four subjects in the test.

1. Fundamentals of Accountancy
2. Economics
3. Mercantile Law
4. Quantitative Aptitude

These subjects are divided into 2 groups of 2 subjects each. Upon scoring 30 percent marks in each of the two groups you will manage to clear the Common Proficiency Test and carry on with applying for the Integrated Professional Competancy Course (IPCC)

The IPCC also have 2 groups. First has 4 subjects while second has 3. Once you have cleared the first group, it would be the time to start 3 years long articleship.

During the course of articleship you will have to clear the second group of IPCC. After which when 6 months are left to complete articleship you will have to apply for the Final examination.

CA stands for the Chartered Accountancy. It is one of the most preferred career stream after completion of 10+2.

Chartered Accountancy has three stages:

1. Common Proficiency Test.

2. Integrated Professional Competence Course

3. Final course.

The first examination which you need to clear for Chartered Accountancy is Common Proficiency test.

This entrance exam is conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountancy of India twice every year in the month of June and December respectively.

You can register for this exam after 10th but you can only appear if you have done 10+2 from a recognized board.

CPT is an objective test consisting of 200 multiple choice questions with one mark for correct answer and 0.25 for each negative answer. Questions asked are from four sections:

>>Accountancy

>>Mercantile law

>>Quantitative aptitude.

>>Economics.

In order to pass the CPT, a candidate needs to score 30% marks in each section and overall 50% in whole test.
