Dhalai District is one of the four districts in the state of Tripura and it is also an administrative district in the state. The city of Ambassa is acting as the headquarters of the district, which is located at a distance of about 90 kms from the state capital Agartala. It is one of the youngest districts in the state that was formed in the year 1995 that is rich in natural resources.

Nearly 70% of the total area of the district is covered by forests and hills with scenic beauty. Until recently, there was no railway station in the district and construction of railway lines are going on, however, the district is connected to the other parts of the state and other states through road transport by NH 44. When it comes to higher education in Dhalai District, there are only a few colleges and the names of government college functioning in the district are given below:

Arts College:

Government Degree College, Kamalpur, Dhalai District

Polytechnic College:

Dhalai District Polytechnic, Ambassa

Arts College:

Government Degree College, Kamalpur, Dhalai District came into existence in the year 1987 and the college is functioning with affiliation from the Tripura University. The college offers honors courses in arts stream of education with the following subjects:

Political Science

History

Bengali

History

In addition, the college also acts as a study centre for Indira Gandhi National University, thereby offering the following courses:

Bachelor of Arts

Bachelor of Commerce

BPP

CRD

CHR

Polytechnic College:

Dhalai District Polytechnic, Ambassa came into existence in the year 2010 and this college also functions under the control of the Tripura University. The college offers diploma courses in the following subjects:

Diploma in

o Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering

o Electrical Engineering

o Civil Engineering

For each of these branches, the college is permitted to admit 40 students per year and admission is offered to candidates, who have completed their class X examination from the board of secondary education of the state of Tripura or any other equivalent board.

Even though, there are only two colleges in the district of Dhalai, these colleges function effectively to meet the educational requirement of the people belonging to this developing district of the state of Tripura. People from nearby districts are also benefitted by these colleges.
