The district of West Tripura is located in the Indian state of Tripura and it is the administrative district of the state. The district has the city of Agartala as its headquarters and according to a survey conducted in the year 2011, the district is the most populous district in the state. The district is spread over an area of 2997 km2 and it has five sub-divisions namely, Terliamura subdivision, Khowai subdivision, Sonamura subdivision, Bishalgarh subdivision and Sadar subdivision and the district has 16 blocks.

Medical College:

Agartala Government Medical College, Agartala is offering medical education with affiliation from the Tripura University. Medical Council of India has allowed the college to admit 100 students per year for the MBBS course offered. The institute is also approved by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of the Government of India and for applying to the MBBS course offered by the college, candidates must complete 17 years of age before the 31st of December of the year in which he or she is seeking admission. Admission is done based on the performance of the students in the Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the Tripura Board of Joint Entrance Examination. The minimum percentage of marks required to apply for the MBBS course is 50% of marks at the higher secondary level in biology, physics and chemistry subjects.

Law College:

Tripura Government Law College, Agartala came into existence in the year 1986 and this college is also affiliated to the Tripura University. The college is approved by the Bar Council of India and by the state government of Tripura. The college offers five-year full-time Bachelor of Law (honors) course.

Arts, Science & Commerce Colleges:

Government Degree College, Khowai, Government Degree College, Sonamura and Women’s College, Agaratala are arts, science and commerce colleges and these colleges are also affiliated to the Tripura University. Arts and science course at the UG level are offered in different subjects by these colleges. Of these three colleges, two are co-education colleges and one is meant for women students.

Polytechnic College:

Women’s Polytechnic is functioning under the control of the government of Tripura and it offers diploma courses in the following subjects with approval from the All India Council for Technical Education. The institution was previously affiliated to the All India Council for Technical Education and now it is affiliated to the Tripura University.
