Jhalawar is a city located in the southeastern part of the state of Rajasthan and it was acting as the capital of the former princely state of Jhalawar. The city acts as the administrative headquarters of the district of Jhalawar and previously Jhalawar was called as Brijnagar. According to the census conducted in the year 2001, the city had a population of around 48000 people, male constitute 53% of population, while females constitute 47% of the population.

Medical College:

Jhalawar Hospital & Medical College came into existence in the year 2008 and the college is affiliated to the Rajasthan University. The Indian Medical Council has approved the college to admit 100 students per year for the MBBS Course. The college was established by the government of Rajasthan in the year 2007 by forming a society that is registered as Jhalawar Hospital and Medical College.  Out of the 100 seats meant for MBBS course, 35 seats are filled through RPMT, 15 seats are filled through AIPMT, 35 seats are filled as per the recommendation of Bhargav Comm. and these seats are also filled through RPMT and 15 seats are NRI Seats filled through direct personal interview. Therefore, admission procedure in the college is divided into three categories namely All India PMT, RPMT and Direct Admission.

Engineering College:

Government Engineering College, Jhalawar stands in high feather for being the first engineering college working under the control of the Government of Rajasthan among six districts chosen under Rural Employment Guarantee programme by the HRD scheme of Indian Government. The first session of Bachelor of Technology course in four branches began from the year 2007-08 and from the academic year 2009-10, two new branches of engineering were introduced. The institute is approved with an intake capacity of 60 students in each branch of engineering course and B. Tech courses are offered in the following branches of engineering:

Mechanical Engineering

Electrical Engineering

Information Technology

Electronics & Communication Engineering

Computer Science & Engineering

Civil Engineering

In addition the college also offers MBA and professional courses like Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications, Bachelor of Computer Applications and Bachelor of Business Administration. These professional courses are affiliated to the Kota University, while the engineering courses offered by the institution are affiliated to the Rajasthan Technical University. Admission of students to the UG courses offered by the college is done based on Rajasthan Pre Entrance Test score of candidates, while some percentage of seats are filled through AIEEE score.

Law College:

Government College, Jhalawar is actually a law college offering education in the field of law. The college came into existence in the year 1985 and it is a co-education college offering Bachelor of Law as three-year course and five-year integrated course as well with affiliation form the University of Kota. This college is approved by the Bar Council of India and affiliated to the Kota University.

Thus, these three professional colleges in the Jhalawar offer a great contribution towards the development of professionals in the state of Rajasthan and many doctors, engineers and lawyers were so far been produced by these colleges.
