With Globalization of the Indian Economy, commerce and trade links of our nation are expanding day after day. Multinational companies are coming to India and even Indian companies are extending their operations abroad for joint ventures. Due to this, job opportunities for those with proficiency in foreign languages is increasing in India and there is demand for candidates with knowledge of languages like Korean, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, German and French so as to facilitate the companies to have international communications.

Courses in Foreign Languages in India:

Most of the universities in the nation offer three types of course in foreign languages being degree courses, diploma courses and certificate courses. The duration of the courses and the eligibility conditions differ from one university to another. However, normally, for certificate courses in foreign languages, minimum educational qualification is higher secondary in any discipline and for degree courses candidates with graduation in any discipline are eligible to apply. Even some universities and institutions offer both basic and advanced courses like PG courses and even Ph. D courses in foreign languages.

Job Prospects in Foreign Languages:

Job opportunities for foreign language graduates range from public relation, executive and secretarial positions to interpretation and translation. Translators are appointed by research institutions, publishing houses and industrial houses. Foreign companies working in India like GE, Thomson, LG, Hyundai, Samsung, Oracle and HP are employing foreign language experts. Airlines and hotels also employ candidates with foreign language knowledge, KPOs, BPOs, diplomatic services, mass communication and public relations organizations recruit candidates with foreign language skills. There are also ample opportunities for linguists as decoders, technical translators and as online content writers.

Government Jobs in Foreign Languages:

Government organizations like Embassies of Foreign Countries and Ministry of External Affairs offer job opportunities for candidates with foreign language graduation. Translation jobs are available for professionals with foreign language skills in Department of Tourism of Government of India and different state governments as well. Teaching positions are available for foreign language professors in government-run educational institutions and for teaching positions, candidates must have completed their M. Phil or Ph. D in appropriate foreign language.
