Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers comes under Group A services in Railway. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts Combined Engineering Service Examination to recruit candidates to this post.

Structure of Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) Exam

This exam will have two parts with two sections in first part. Details of both parts are given below

Part 1

This written examination will be conducted with first section as objective test and second as conventional type. Subjects of two sections with their duration and marks are given below.

Section-1

General Ability Test – 200 marks with duration of 2 hours

(Part A: General English)

(Part B: General Studies)

Electrical Engineering Paper I – 200 marks with duration of 2 hours

Electrical Engineering Paper II – 200 marks with duration of 2 hours

Section-2

Electrical Engineering Paper I – 200 marks with duration of 3 hours

Electrical Engineering Paper II – 200 marks with duration of 3 hours

Part 2

Only candidates qualified in the written test are allowed to attend Part 2. This part consists of a personality test with maximum 200 marks.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidate should possess Engineering degree or its equivalent to apply for this test. Age limit specified for this test is between twenty one and thirty years with relaxation is given for reserved category. Also candidate should not have any physical disabilities according to the rules specified for this exam.

How to Apply?

Candidates can apply for this exam through the website www.upsconline.nic.in. Those candidates should pay exam fees of Rs. 50/- in cash at SBI. Candidates can also use the online facility of SBI to pay the fees. Candidates from remote areas can submit offline applications. In that case forms can be obtained from the designated Head Post offices   or Post Offices on paying Rs.20/- .Fees of Rs.100/- should be paid in this case through the CRFS facility. Fee exemption will be given for female/SC/ST/PH candidates.

How to fill the Form?

Fill the form after reading the instructions specified in the brochure. Avoid using the photocopy of the form for sending. If candidates want to change any responses given earlier, then they should completely erase those circles darkened before. Avoid making unnecessary marks on the form. Application forms should be sent without any kind of mutilation. Confirm none of the mandatory columns are left without entering any details.

Code numbers entered should be Indian numerals in their international form. Use HB pencil for darkening circles and ball point pen (Blue or Black) for entering corresponding numerals in boxes. Fold at the places specified on the form.

Study Plan

As there is objective and descriptive test for engineering subjects, main focus will be given for those subjects. Books for engineering subjects are easily available on internet and shops. Refer those books which explain the principles which are easily understood by the students. To improve the knowledge in general studies try to read as much as magazines related to current affairs. Language ability can be improved by reading various newspapers as each newspaper handles the same news differently.

Score Validity

The score obtained from this exam will be valid till the end of the recruitment process.
