Doctor of Philosophy abbreviated as PhD is an advanced academic degree awarded by universities for extensive study and research in any specific discipline. In many western countries, PhD is the highest degree one can earn. The requirements for an award of PhD degree varies from one nation to another, while in some, candidates must do coursework along with research work, on the other hand, in a few other countries, candidates can have their doctorate degrees by doing only extensive research work. There is no hard and fast rule or way of awarding the degree of PhD. A PhD degree is a must these days to start off careers as professors in universities or researcher in most fields. There is no specific time period slated for the completion of one’s thesis which will give them their degree. Usually, it ranges from two to three years but can also extend for longer duration.
