Biotechnology is the newly developing field which has got wide variety of application in health care, agriculture and food processing industries. M.Sc degree in Biotechnology enables the candidates to develop high skills to be used in the biotechnology field. Genetic tools for the construction of bacterial consortia in bio/mineral catalysts with activity on environmental pollutants - This project aims on developing genetic tools by which the bacterial strains can be joined together in a bacterial consortium. This can be done through complementary or sequential activities. The main focus is given on the ways through which the strains can be glue together by attaching small single-chain antibodies to the cell wall of the strains.

Database of the ribotype profiles of bacterial type strains - Bacterial type strains deposited in microorganism collections are very essential for all taxonomic studies as it represent almost all species described till now. Their identity and authenticity can be controlled only by its precise and detailed description. This project aims on ribotyping the type strains of gram-positive cocci and gram-negative rods which are deposited on the Czech Collection of Microorganisms (CCM). Ribotyping is a type of molecular method which uses the analysis of the cellular DNA. A hybridization profiles database will be obtained by this which can be used for the identification of typical strains. This database can also be used for verifying the strain authentication. Thus this database will help to control the strain identity.

Utilization of modeling in activated sludge wastewater treatment - In this project the strength of the modeling used in the activated sludge wastewater treatment is tested and a new model is proposed after making necessary modification. Varieties of models are available to be used in sludge wastewater treatment. Each of these models is critically reviewed to understand its strength and weakness. Different software packages are used for the examination and the area where the models can be utilized well is identified. Various kinetic experiments are also conducted on the models for verification. Based on this verification, modification can be done on the models to improve the reliability. After performing all major group of test like denitrification, nitrification, phosphate release and uptake tests, a new model proposed which can be utilized well in the activated sludge wastewater treatment.
