Difference between Petrophysicist and Geophysicist
Petrophysics and Geophysics are the two branches of geology which deals with the study of different aspects of our planet, earth. Petrophysics mainly study about the properties of the rocks and fluids found inside the earth while Geophysics study about the internal structure of the earth and its fields. Thus the Petrophysicists and Geophysicists are the scientists who use sophisticated tools and methods to study about the earth and its matters. Even though both of them use same techniques for their studies, their intentions are different.
Petrophysicist and its opportunities
Petrophysicists are responsible for providing suggestions to excavate the earth for the purpose of finding fluids to be used in petroleum industry. They consult with the reservoir engineers and find the best areas to drill for finding the required fluid. Thus the petroleum industry offers fine opportunities for Petrophysicists and they can look up for a long term career in that field. Another opportunity available for them is to work in the laboratories which conduct research on rocks and soils. Also they can work in the research and development department of organization which promotes petroleum products. Petrophysicists can look for the following job profiles given below.
- Senior Petrophysicists
- Senior Reservoir Petrophysicists
- R&D Petrophysicists
Geophysicist and its opportunities
Wide range of opportunities is available for Geophysicists as they specialize in different fields. Some of them work on dam construction sites while others work in the organizations which focus on finding methods to avoid environmental hazards like earthquake. The Oil and Natural Gas Agency Limited offers job opportunities for Geophysicists who are specialized in Petroleum and Mining. National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) hires the service of Geophysicists for research purposes. They are also employed on nuclear weapons labs for checking the seismic data available from different parts of the world. Job profiles available for Geophysicists are given below.
- Exploration Geophysics Advisor
- Senior Geophysicist
- Exploration Geoscientist
- Development Geophysicist
Key difference between Petrophysicist and Geophysicist
Petrohysicists studies about earthly matters while Geophysicists studies about the earth itself. The service of Petrophysicists is mainly needed in the field of Petroleum industry while Geophysicists mainly concern with the research purposes. As Petrophysicists practice in a unique field, less number of opportunities is available for them when compared to Geophysicists.
