National Power Training Institute (NPTI) in Durgapur offers undergraduate, diploma and certificate programs in Power Engineering and Distribution. Aspirants who have completed senior secondary/diploma course can join either undergraduate or post diploma course. Post Graduate Diploma course is offered for candidates having B.E/B.Tech or equivalent qualification. Those who have passed 8th standard can pursue certificate program.

Score obtained in All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) or PGDC Common Entrance Test (CET) will be considered for admission to certain courses like B.Tech and PGDC. For other courses, admission will be given either directly or according to the aggregate score obtained in qualifying examination.

Diploma courses

  • Post Diploma in Thermal Power Plant Engineering (PDC)
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Thermal Power Plant Engineering (PGDC)

  • Certificate of Competency in Power Distribution (CCPD)

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for B.Tech course, one should pass the senior secondary examination conducted by West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or any equivalent examination with English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as subjects. Those who are seeking admission through lateral entry scheme should complete their Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from any recognized polytechnic college.

To get admission to Post Diploma course in Thermal Power Plant Engineering, one should pass the final examination of 10th standard with minimum of 60% aggregate. Also they should have completed Diploma in Electronics/Mechanical/ Power/Control and Instrumentation Engineering /Electrical/ or any equivalent engineering stream with minimum of 60% aggregate. It is necessary that candidates should have obtained the concerned diploma from any recognized polytechnic college. Maximum age specified for the non- sponsored candidates applying for the course is 25 years. There is no age limit in the case of sponsored candidates from a reputed organization.

Candidates having B.E/B.Tech or equivalent qualification in Power/ Electrical/ Mechanical/ Control and Instrumentation Engineering/Electronics or any equivalent engineering branch can apply for the Post Graduate Diploma course in Thermal Power Plant Engineering. Maximum age limit specified for non- sponsored candidates is 27 years while age restriction is not there for sponsored candidates. If the non-sponsored candidates belong to reserved category, then they can claim age relaxation as per the government norms. Those who are in the final year of engineering course can also apply if they can submit their provisional or original degree certificate during counselling.

Certificate of Competency in Power Distribution course is offered for Electricians and Tradesmen to improve their skills. The course is open to all those who have passed at least 8th standard.

Admission Procedure

Admission to B.Tech course will be based on the score obtained in either All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) or West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE). Merit list will be prepared according to the relevant entrance test score and the candidates should appear before the Central Selection Committee for counseling.

Candidates will be selected for Post Diploma course in Thermal Power Plant Engineering according to their marks in qualifying examination. But in the case of Post Graduate Diploma courses in Thermal Power Plant Engineering, admission will be based on Common Entrance Test (CET). Candidates can appear for counselling if they possess the required score in this entrance test. Those who possess specified eligibility requirements can directly join for certificate course.
