Procedure to become a News Reporter in News Channels
Candidates who have the desire to become a News Reporter should first of all join any journalism courses like B.A. (Journalism), Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication, Bachelor in Media Science etc. Then they should apply for the vacancy of trainee reporter in media companies like CNN-IBN, NDTV, Times Now etc. After the probationary period, they can get into the position of News Reporter.

Those who have completed senior secondary or equivalent course from any recognized Board can apply for these undergraduate courses in Journalism. To join Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication, one should have minimum of 50% aggregate in the concerned qualifying examination.
Normally, marks obtained in the qualifying examination will be considered as selection criteria for joining bachelor’s courses in Journalism. For getting admission into certain courses like B.A. (Journalism), Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication etc., one should first qualify relevant common entrance test. Some of the popular entrance tests conducted for the intake of eligible candidates to the undergraduate courses in journalism is Combined Journalism Entrance Test (C-JET) and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test (GGSIPU-CET) etc.
Step 2: Apply for the job
After completing any of the Bachelor or Masters level courses in Journalism, one can search for jobs of News Reporter through newspaper, consultancies or online job sites. Candidates can also upload their resume in the official website of the concerned media company if suitable vacancies are notified. Those who have good experience in the field of news reporting can join most reputed news agencies in the world like BBC, Reuters etc.
Most of the media companies will recruit fresh graduates in Journalism through written test and interview. They will be recruited as trainees and have to undergo training for a particular period of time. Their performance during this probationary period will be evaluated. Based on the evaluation, they will be appointed as Reporter. With experience, they can get into the position of Senior Reporter and then into editorial roles.
