Common Law Admission Test also known as CLAT is a national level entrance exam conducted by fourteen best law institutes of India. Admission to courses such as LL.B and LL.M will be based on the scores obtained in this exam. This two hour test comprises of 200 questions.

Eligibility criterion for Under Graduate courses

The minimum eligibility for this exam is a pass in 12th class in any stream from a recognized board of education. Candidates should secure a minimum of 50 % aggregate marks to be eligible for these courses. Candidates belonging to reserved category require 45 % marks to qualify. Those who have appeared in their higher secondary examination and are awaiting results can also apply for this examination. Candidates who are more than 20 years of age at the time of application are not eligible to apply. Candidates belonging to reserved category are eligible for two years relaxation.

Eligibility criterion for Post Graduate courses

Candidates who have obtained LLB/ Bachelor of law or an equivalent degree from any institute recognized by UGC are eligible to apply for CLAT. The minimum mark required for general category candidates is 55 %. Candidates belonging to reserved category require 50 % aggregate marks to be eligible. Candidates who have appeared in their final year degree examination and awaiting results are also eligible. Such candidates are required to pass the qualifying examination at the time of their admission and should be able to submit their proof of eligibility.

Application procedure for Common Law Admission Test

Application forms of Common Law Admission Test can be purchased from designated branches of State Bank of India by cash payment of Rs.3000/-. Candidates who belong to reserved category are required to pay only Rs. 2500/- on submission of proof.  Apart from this, application form can be obtained from 11 selected National Law Schools. Aspirants can download the prescribed application form cum information brochure from the official website of CLAT.

Candidates are required to fill the OMR application form as per the instructions provided in the information brochure. Fully filled in application form along with supporting documents should be sent by post to The Convenor, CLAT. Candidates who apply online are required to take a demand draft of Rs. 3000/- from any nationalised bank, in favour of National Law University, Jodhpur CLAT payable at Jodhpur. Incomplete and late applications will be rejected without any intimation.
