Admission to the course is generally carried out on the basis of GATE score. Admission Process

Reputed institutes such as National Institute of Technology consider GATE score for the admission procedure. Non GATE candidates can also seek admission in NITs. Such candidates will have to clear the written test and viva voce conducted by the institutes. For instance, entrance exam conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University comprises of two papers, such as Technology Stream and Life Sciences Stream. There will be objective type questions.

Other Universities such as Meerut University and Heritage Institute of Technology also conduct their entrance exam for Non GATE candidates. Vellore Institute of Technology admits candidates who have cleared VITMEE. The entrance exam usually has a similar structure as that of GATE.
