Career In Archeology
Archeology finds its place under the tag of unusual career options, not many people seems to be interested in this career but few are interested. This could probably because of the fact that archeology is meant for people with analytical bent of mind and those who love to know about the past. Today each and every activity is being recorded but this was not the case in ancient world. Archeology provides a way to know more about the civilizations that are no more now.
There are many questions still to be solved and their answers are hidden somewhere buried along with the civilizations. So it becomes really very important to study what is left behind so that we can avoid the same from happening again. People have a notion that archeology is not rewarding but it’s totally opposite only if you strive to unveil the mysteries from the past and have that dedication and passion. Those who study archeology are called archeologists and their work basically includes fieldwork, excavation of sites, dating and the classification of the materials found during excavation.
Eligibility:
The candidate who wants to pursue bachelor’s course in history or archeology must be atleast 10+2 pass. After completing the graduation, the student has the option of choosing between post graduate degree or diploma program in archeology. But to apply for post graduation the candidate should have a minimum of 55% in the graduate level.
The student can opt from any of the following course areas:

• Epigraphy

• Chemical Preservation
• Historical Archaeology
• Ethno archaeology
• Experimental archaeology
• Archaeometry
• Computational Archaeology
• Isotope analysis
• Geoarchaeology
• Bioarchaeology
The field of archeology offers very interesting jobs such as analyzing coins and translating the previous scripts. Institute of Archaeology is the prime archeology college in India and after you have completed the course you can be absorbed by the government sector by giving UPSC or SSC examinations. Moreover the student can also take up SLET and NET for going into research and teaching profession.
Pay Scale:
The initial pay package may not be very alluring especially in the government sector. However the private sector may give considerably good package when compared to the government sector companies. The basic package is between Rs. 10,000 to Rs.20,000
