Changing Scenario of IT Recruitment
The recruitment scenario is undergoing significant changes. The recruitment process in general is the process of attracting more qualified and apt employees towards the functioning of an organization. The recruitment process is an important function in an organization which helps the company in achieving strategic development as well as creating competitive strength when compared to other organizations. This method involves sourcing candidates from different sources in accordance to the needs of the organization and placing them accordingly.
The process of recruitment involves different stages but one cannot come to a conclusion that it is a difficult process. The process can be complicated when a particular organization will not be able to place the right candidates for the various positions vacant in the organizations. Placing candidates based on the needs of the organization as well as position is one which needs to be carefully done.
Recession – Effect on Recruitment
The period of recession was one major time where in companies had difficulty in recruitment functions as most of the people were laid off because of the market condition that was prevailing. But on the other hand now recession is no longer an ongoing process but a momentary affair. As India which was heading in to provide services to other nations too was effected. The situation was so worse that various business giants or companies in the financial sector and all were hinting the experienced employees also for layoff.
As every issue has good as well as bad effects, recession too had it own shades. May be many aspects can be learned from the failure too. The most significant point lies in where the organizations or the employees in general have to learn from their experience during the time of recession and try to incorporate the positive side of it in further performance which will enable them to reap in high advantage. The manpower consultants should be in a position to showcase their talent by providing the most profitable human resources to the needful at a monetary value which is acceptable to them even in recession stage.
IT Industry – Growth
The role of IT industry in the economic progress of our country has been quite encouraging. The IT domain in India has been flourishing where in the companies is in a position to maintain their position in the global market. The IT professionals are increasing their skills and expertise to face new challenges in a way making themselves more professional. These preparations made it possible for the IT companies such as Infosys, TCS, and Accenture, Cognizant etc to make their presence felt in the global market too. As there are a number of IT companies operating in the sector there is no shortage of employment opportunities.
Changes in IT sector Recruitment
When we talk about the tremendous opportunities available in IT sector, one should also observe the recruitment processes which are prevailing in this sector. The standard recruitment process in IT firms has being undergoing significant changes. As earlier days, the candidates were selected on the basis of written test, Group discussions as well as the Interview in general. But as time changes and new IT empires has been building up the whole process has been changing. As the market faces changes, as already mentioned the recruitment process is also changing in where in the IT sector is now looking on to introduce new models or criteria’s of recruitment.
The recruitment scenario is no longer based on the academic performance or marks but on the other hand how a particular candidate can leave personal signature of himself.
Many IT industries are been undergoing recruitment process through written tests. The tests include technical exams specific to their fields. But on the other hand, now it has changed to case studies or situation based tests etc. The most important quality that is needed for success in an exam being the correct combination of knowledge of their particular domain along with the real time tricks to behave or overcome particular situation.
The current recruitment sector has traveled in more areas where in they are introducing different tests related to a candidates skill and abilities .Some important tests that are followed are Intelligence Quotient (IQ), Social and Spiritual quotient(SPQ), Employability quotient(EQ),Emotional Quotients (EQ) etc. The latest one to join this segment being Flexibility quotient (FQ).
Industry in general is also looking in for people who can contribute as well challenge the industry in general and to themselves. The current situations being where in the organizations in particular are not genuinely interested in hiring and then frequently providing training them to fit in to a particular core of job. This results in more time consumption as well as more resources. The selected person must be able to deal in with situations and should be able to work hard and adjust the situations rather being the traditional model of being agreeing to what ever the boss says.
Another major challenge being the industry is not in a position to hire in people who best suits their requirements. The final outcome with regard to the campus placements being a big zero as the companiesare constantly facing in challenges to mould the candidates according to their requirements rather than the possibility of getting people who best fit in to their needs. From the total people who are selected on the basis of campus placements it is shocking to reveal that only a very small percentage of about 25 is suitable for employment.
But the industry still vests confidence in the candidates as they have the expectation that if the students are provided training which is more suitable to the industry standards the situation will or can be improved.
As we can always be sure that the Indian professionals always has the qualities of self discipline, hard work, teamwork, integrity ,learning initiatives etc which are the predominant factors which underlie the EQ , these qualities can be regained if they are lost or not seen at certain point of time.
As per reports, most of the candidates are good but the problem comes in where in they are not able to meet the Flexibility factor in jobs. The real solution to this hurdle may be to introduce or train students with real time situation while they are studying and make them familiar with these and suggest ways to overcome these situations. Apart from these the faculties are also provided training in practical terms. Another issue being most of the students are reluctant to come out from their comfort zones and prove their mettle by exploring new ways of learning.
Hence , as a solution to this situation a combined effort is expected from the sides of teachers , students as well as institutes or companies to bring in more effectiveness to the effort of the candidates in the IT industry itself. There is a need to work together and deliver what was right for the students in specific and make them more familiar to the industry in particular in a true sense. This is the only solution to overcome that gap between demand and supply.
