Difference between MHTCET and AIPMT

Both MHT CET and AIPMT are entrance tests for admission to various undergraduate professional courses. Those who have completed HSC course with Science, as the main subject can attend these tests. Though these exams seem similar in certain aspects, they have some prominent differences also.

Details on MHTCET

Government of Maharashtra carries out MHTCET or Maharashtra Common Entrance Test. The main objective behind this entrance test is to select students for medical, engineering and Pharmacy courses. Candidates of Maharashtra as well as those outside the state can attend the entrance test. Application fee for attending the entrance test is Rs.700/- for general category candidates and candidates outside state of Maharashtra. Aspirants belonging to reserved category need to pay Rs. 500/- only. Those who qualify the test can seek admission in any of the professional colleges (in health care, engineering or Pharmacy) in the State. Qualified candidates outside the state of Maharashtra can only apply to unaided private engineering Colleges/Institutes of the state.

Details of AIPMT

The Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, carries out All India Pre Medical/Pre Dental Entrance Examination or AIPMT. This is a national level entrance test conducted for the selection of suitable candidates in to undergraduate medical and dental courses. The entrance exam is conducted in two stages, Preliminary and Final. Syllabus for both the stages covers topics in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Those who qualify preliminary stage can only attend final stage exam. Application fee for attending the test is Rs. 1000/- for general category candidates and Rs. 550/- for reserved category candidates.

Difference between MHT CET and AIPMT

One noticeable difference between MHTCET and AIPMT is regarding the authority who conducts these exams. The Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi conducts AIPMT exam where as MHT CET exam is carried out by Government of Maharashtra. AIPMT is a national level exam where as the other one is more a state level exam.

AIPMT is conducted for selecting eligible candidates for M.B.B.S or BDS courses where as MHT CET is conducted for selecting aspirants to Engineering, Medical and Pharmacy courses.

Exam pattern of MHT CET includes 3 papers. One paper is common for engineering and medical streams. This paper includes questions from Physics and Chemistry. Second paper includes questions from Biology and is meant for medical stream.  Third paper, which includes questions on mathematics, is meant for engineering stream. On the other hand, preliminary and final stage of AIPMT includes questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology. In contrast to MHTCET, each stage is conducted as a single paper test.

Only online method of application is possible in case of AIPMT, where as offline method of application submission is also possible in case of MHT CET.
